The play by play guys are so emo. "Ohhh, what a play!!!!" "Wraparound, woooooo!" :lawl:

They need to learn to at least pronounce player's names properly. Seguin, NOT Segween. :rukidding:

LOL why have the worlds in a country where no one knows anything about hockey? Crazy Frenchist commentators are terrible. So much fake excitement. Just sounds wrong.

Like when people who don't have a British accent try to do soccer commentary.

Russians could be facing IIHF penalty for being poor sports. Props to Ovie for staying on and trying to keep the rest of his teammates on the ice for the Canadian anthem.

Russia to be punished for ‘completely out of order’ actions after Worlds final loss to Canada
Mike Halford May 18, 2015, 12:47 PM EDT

On Monday, IIHF president Rene Fasel had some choice — and ominous — remarks for Team Russia, which left the ice before Canada’s anthem was played following Sunday’s 6-1 loss in the World Hockey Championship final.

“The IIHF has its own protocol and some sort of punishment will be handed down,” Fasel told TASS, per Reuters. “When I saw what had happened, I was very upset. In the 29 world championships that I have had the honor of attending, this is the first time I have seen something like this.

“What the Russian team did was completely out of order.”

Canada routed the Russians on the strength of four goals in 10 minutes spanning the first and second periods. The Canadians eventually pushed the lead to 6-0, before Evgeni Malkin scored a consolation marker for the Russians with under 10 minutes to play.

Following the game, the Russian team stayed out for the medal ceremony and individual award announcements, but left the surface prior to ‘O Canada’ being played.

According to various onlookers, former NHLer Ilya Kovalchuk reportedly waved his teammates off the ice (here’s a video from Russian sports writer Slava Malamud.) It’s worth noting that Washington captain Alex Ovechkin was trying to keep his Russian mates on:

Kovalchuk is an idiot.

Czechs have a great sense of humor, black humor too... I wish my wireless was good enough I can never get my videos uploaded to YouTube from watching the semi-finals in Prague at the old town square... way better atmosphere than I ever experienced at home... people singing songs and chanting... the things you don't see are the ads on commercial breaks there, they have an ad with Vladmir Ruzicks every break that has all these guys with teeth missing tripping over the bench on line changes and eating sandwiches before the game basically a "We're blue collar workers, that's Czech hockey!" type of thing. Hilarious! Wasn't so funny the 40th time it played, but the idea is there. Also, in interviews, they were realistic... Jagr straight up said they might beat Canada once by accident so maybe this was that one time and that they (Canada) basically had an Olympics caliber team... and Ruzicka said they didn't even bother watching video of Canada's games because every game they just scored a few in the beginning and spent the rest of the game goofing around and trying ridiculous moves. Do we ever get that kind of honesty or realism over here? No way haha...

HonestTea 05-18-2015 04:15 PM

Huge props and respect to Ovi for staying on the ice and trying to get his teammates to as well.

Malkin was one of the few that also stayed on the ice.

Managed to upload the videos in standard def... still won't go in high def... sigh...

Singing along with music/pre-game festivities (everyone is drinking beer from bottles/cans they brought in, no rules at all haha) of note I did not see or hear a single other Canada fan. When we scored, it went completely dead silent.

Singing a Czech song of some sort:

Chanting:

There were also several chants for Ondrej Pavelec haha... and no negativity really... normally you think you would hear "Canada sucks!" type chants... the closest they came was "Beat Canada!" which is a pretty polite way of putting it. What a great way to watch a game surrounded by all that architecture and just doing whatever makes you comfortable... when can you stand in public drinking out of glass beer bottles at an organized event in Canada? Yah... no.

These videos bring back so many memories of watching Speed Skating at the Heineken House...

Europeans love their sports and are one of the best fans in the world. They party hard and they LOVE to chant and sing. Its amazing!

If they tried to do that in Canada, people would be breaking out in fights every 5 minutes

Besides Canadian "quietness" in general, they just know how to enjoy shit more... It also helps not to live in a city where your asshole is puckered every day trying to figure out how to balance a mortgage that eats up 90% of your income every month *cough*vancouversucks*cough*

I think part of it is that North Americans enjoy the sport itself more, and Europeans want to be 'part of the show'. You see that a lot with sports that travel around the world - MMA, pro wrestling, etc. It spills over to hockey and soccer, where the live crowd doesn't care so much about the game itself, but just enjoying the moment of being there.

quasi 05-19-2015 11:39 AM

Looks no different then Robson when Canada was playing for the Gold Medal in 2010. They'll never allow the open alcohol, maybe Europeans drink more responsibly I don't know but there are way to many morons who would start fights and other bullshit as Skinny mentioned above. Personally I don't get it, I'm totally satisfied having a couple drinks I don't understand why so many people have to get obliterated in public but to each their own I guess, I'll just watch from home.

EA's NHL16 new features got released. Of hilarious note is in GM Mode there is now a player morale dynamic. And guess who's face they used for a related pic...

McLellan new head coach for the Oilers. Things are definitely looking better for that organization.

On paper. Lol.

I'm more interested in the payout when the coilers inevitably fuck it up and land a top 3 pick :troll:

Jmac 05-19-2015 05:51 PM

The Oilers will be better this year (can't do much worse). Chiarelli is a decent GM, Lowe is out of power (on paper, at least), and now they have a decent coach.

They have a ton of holes to fill, though. Their bottom 6, defense, and goaltending all suck.

XplicitLuder 05-19-2015 06:18 PM

who cares how bad they are, theyre gonna win a cup before we even reach the SCF again, fuckin rip
