Reports are coming out that Sabres are angry with Babcock because apparently a deal was agreed to in principal for similar dollars and that plans for a presser on Monday with Babcock was in the works. It appears Babcock backed out and took the Toronto deal as Leafs threw in the sweetener of player personel decisions/semi GM. I was indifferent to the Sabres pursuing Babcock, he's a good coach but my personal hesitation was that Babcock wants to win now and might rush or abandon the young core group growing together and bringing in his pet Dan Cleary and such like how AV brings Tanner Glass everywhere.

He'll be a good coach for the Leafs but I wonder if this means they will abandon plans for a proper rebuild. I don't think that would be good in the long run as IMO Kessel and Phaneuf are just not core leaders you build around to win, they can be star/good players on a winning team but should not be part of any core leadership group.
