Oddly enough, the Leafs turned down Bowman for an upper management role back in 2008 because he wanted too much autonomy. Ownership, at the time and up until recently, was more concerned with money than championships . Going out and getting one of the top coaches in hockey is a good sign things are finally starting to change.

75% of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is owned by Rogers and BCE. If the Leafs can make a deep playoff run, they get a huge boost in viewership/revenues as well.

If leafs wins the stanley cup i wonder if CDN will go up....

so now the Oilers may need to give up a draft pick to Boston for signing Chiarelli?

Edmonton Oilers may owe the Boston Bruins draft pick compensation for Peter Chiarelli | Edmonton Journal

lol after hearing about Babcock, my hardcore Leafs buddy bet me $100 that Toronto would be in the SCF in 2017.

2 minutes later took the bet back :lol

This Lightning team is impressive with their offence. Stamkos, Johnson, Kucherov, and Palat. What fire power! :gun:

If only the Canucks had the scouts of Tampa Bay. Palat was drafted 208th overall. :fuckthatshit:

Yeah it's a new rule that the NHL created:

NHL teams compensated for losing coaches, GMs - Sportsnet.ca

Quote:

There will be compensation for NHL teams that lose a coach, general manager or president of hockey operations to another team while they are still under contract.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, teams would receive a second-round draft pick if a transaction happens during the season and a third-round pick if one occurs in the off-season.

Also, there will be a three-year period where the team that hires the coach/GM/president will have to choose when to give up the draft pick.

A coach’s season ends when his team is eliminated from the playoffs, while seasons for GMs and presidents of hockey operations are deemed over following the conclusion of the NHL Draft in June.

Kucherov was #58 overall in the same draft year.
Johnson wasn't even drafted... probably cause he was too small.

Even if Vancouver took these guys, they would have never gave them the chance to develop since we all know, Vancouver hates squeezing in youth into the roster.

guess we missed Brodeur signed as assistant GM for the Blues

Obsideon 05-21-2015 02:30 AM

Depending on how front-loaded structure of his contract is, essentially Babcock will have the highest salary on the team for the next few years

You're both too early and crazy.

XplicitLuder 05-21-2015 08:20 AM

The stat that only 41 players in the NHL make more than Babcock makes me :lawl:

murd0c 05-21-2015 08:36 AM

Babcock just called the Leafs "Canada's Team" ya Team to hate maybe..

crazy, pretty small forwards too

6o4__boi 05-21-2015 09:04 AM

don't think it's so much the scouts as luck
we've traditionally stayed away from Russians and small players are hit and miss...Just cause there's the Johnsons and Gaudreau's out there doesn't mean the small players in the coming drafts are on the same level.
I'd still draft a bigger body over a small point-a-game guy any day.

The lightning definitely got lucky, the Canucks? :fuckthatshit:
can't remember the last time we've ever had that kind of luck

We'll just draft unskilled deaf kids with our 7th rounders. They'll be legit.

Gumby 05-21-2015 09:15 AM

Just because the smaller players are successful playing in the East, you cannot assume they will be just as effective playing in the West.

Are there any rules around salaries for coaches/management? Guess not eh?
