What makes you think that management is trying to trade Lack?

Lack is not ready to be a consistent and solid starter, that's why Miller was signed here, to take Lack under his Wings. Hopefully by the time Miller's contract is over, Lack will be in position to take over the starting goalie position, assuming that he won't be asking to be traded or another goalie prospect outplays him.

As for Markstrom, he might be the odd man out, though he was never given a fair chance.

If they want to trade, then Lack seems like he would fetch a better return.
If they waive, it makes more sense to waive Markstrom and send him to the AHL.

Though that gives us a bunch of problems. Who's going to be interested in taking Lack, and we are going to get nearly nothing in return.
And if we waive Markstrom, I'm pretty sure some one will claim him, which makes the Luu trade even more ugly.

In the long run, we have a ton of goalies in the pipeline - Markstrom, Erikkson, Cannata, and that new guy we just drafted. Are the Canucks trying to make a living of developing then selling off goalies?

Nashville already does that...along with D-men.

Markstrom and Lack seems to be the odd man out.

Miller for 3 yrs
Lack signed for 2 more
Markstrom is RFA

How many more years is Markstrom going to playin the AHL before he bolts to Europe?

Canucks better hope this Thatcher kid is ready to go, because Goalie Controversy could begin this season..or begin next year when is even more ready

I didn't say they were, but that's one of the two ways out of this situation.

Ronin 07-05-2014 04:09 PM

PK is going to make bank. Norris trophy the year before, another great season and a monster playoff performance. He's in the upper echelon when it comes to d-men in this league. Like...Weber, Suter, Doughty, Keith and PK. In no particular order.

Erik Karlsson too but I don't know...I just...I know he's awesome but if I had to pick one D-man to have as my #1, he wouldn't be ahead of those five guys as the anchor of my team.

Verdasco 07-05-2014 04:17 PM

what is arbitration ? sorry from a newb trader / signer lol

Explains NHL salary arbitration. Also has other info about RFA's/UFA's if you are not familiar.

Great deal for Tanev. $2m is less than I thought but I thought he'd sign for $3m for 3-4 years.

Vey won't get much. He's got zilch for experience and isn't lighting anything on fire.

Myers? Originally I thought that would be a stupid move but it's $5.5m for another 5 years and...well, there's always a chance that he just sucks in Buffalo. $18m of his deal is already paid so the Canucks will be paying $20m/5years with a $5.5m cap hit. That'll be an attractive deal but I wouldn't GIVE Buffalo a damn thing for him...not one of our blue chippers.
