I love how tegra comes in before every season and rustles jimmies. Srs.

Overall, Canucks fans don't have a lot of bragging rights. Until we've won the Cup, we really can't say shit about any other team that has. The Cup is the ONLY thing that matters. In sports, no championships, no legacy/no care.

I'm as big of a Canucks fan as anyone here, but that is my opinion and I think it is also the general concensus of sports fans not completely blinded by homer goggles welded to their face.

Sure the Flames have sucked donkey balls but they also iced a formidable opponent not too long ago in the WCE era (that would have won the Cup if Cloutier weren't here!!! )

Canucks sucked donkey balls pretty much after 82 until Bure showed up and we had a shot in 94. Then fucking Messier came in and I'm sure a lot of us remember those days as well.

So let's all get off our high horse and stop bitching about who's legacy is just a little better than the others because, honestly, it's a a fight very near the bottom of the roller coaster that is the NHL standings.

That was 30+ fucking years ago. It's like listening to Oilers fans and Leafs fans brag about cups they won before they were born. No one gives a shit.

Over the 5-10 years (aka recent history), the Canucks have been the FAR superior team and it's not even close.

You may find this shocking, but most people watch hockey for entertainment value, which winning plays a significant part in most markets (Toronto exempt). Why do you think ticket prices were sky-high in Vancouver when the Canucks were winning Presidents' Trophies and dropped through the floor when they sucked shit last year?

So, since this spawned from me saying the Flames have been irrelevant for the past 25 years (and jeedee saying they've been irrelevant since 2004), please explain to us how the Flames have been relevant over that time span (in other words, prove us wrong rather than just deflect it onto another target like a bitch).

Past 25 years (24 seasons)
Canucks: 16 playoff appearances (4 in past 5 seasons), advanced past the first round 9 times (2 times in past 5 seasons), 13 playoff series wins (4 in past 5 seasons), 2 Stanley Cup Finals appearances (1 in past 5 seasons), 2 Presidents' Trophies (2 in past 5 seasons), 9 Divisional Titles (4 in past 5 seasons).

Flames: 11 playoff appearances (0), advanced past the first round 1 time (0), 3 playoff series wins (0), 1 Stanley Cup Finals appearance (0), 0 Presidents' Trophies (0), 3 Divisional Titles (0).

I like how you're permitted to dictate whatever criteria that is worthy of consideration. If you can't have a discussion about sports without getting angry and resorting to name-calling, then you need to A) take a step back and re-evaluate your priorities B) calm the fuck down C) grow up.

Congrats, you're better than Calgary has been in the last 5 years? Great, that's when our team was on the decline - aging Kiprusoff, aging Iggy, aging Tanguay, no good prospects, etc, and a series of poor trades like Dion Phaneuf, etc. But all throughout that time, Calgary's still had a full house at the dome (as far as I can recall), and in the past 3 years or so has fully re-stocked the prospect cabinet with some seriously good talent like Monahan, Gaudreau, and Bennett, and Gio has developed into a top 10 defender in the league.

In the same time, you've had playoff appearances, one finals appearance. Yes, Congrats. But throughout the same time, the Canucks developed a terrible rep for being a bunch of whiny, diving bitches, especially Burrows, who apparently likes eating fingers. You've gone from two good goalies, either of whom could be starters in the league, to nothing, in the last couple of years. Since the brawl last January, your team pretty much sank like a rock. You're where Calgary was five years ago. Aging superstars, still clawing away to try and sneak one last cup run through before everyone retires.

Both sides have their good and their bad... and you're not the one that gets to decide the basis for making those decisions.

It's funny because the coach in your gif couldn't win anything in Calgary and won 2 cups in LA immediately after joining the team. Lol

Not really, he only coached in Calgary for three seasons. First season we missed the playoffs. Second season was the finals run. Third season Calgary got bounced in the first round. After that he moved up to GM.

Slap bet.

A GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT.

Watching that Ducks video reminded me that Boudreau is the coach. I wonder how his style will rub Kes considering 17 seems to have a problem with authority.

Also heard today that Selanne apparently said he retired because of Boudreau and thinks he still has more gas in the tank..

I could see some potential fireworks down south.

Pens new alternates looks awesome...those baby blues were hideous

m3thods 09-19-2014 11:47 AM

For such an awesome colour-way, you don't see too many clones in beer leagues. That's too bad because pens colours are so nice.

Liquid_o2 09-19-2014 11:55 AM

Awesome third jersey, love it. Looks like a modernized throwback.

Spoon 09-19-2014 12:21 PM

Isn't it about the same as their old jersey circa Mario Lemieux era?

pretty much a modernized version of it, yes

like the Canucks current 'stick-in-rink' jersey which is a modernized version of the 1970 jerseys

That being said, the kid isn't worth a $6.5m contract. Maybe more in the $4-4.5 range. I have a feeling an offer sheet might be on the way.

from another team LOL

Love that pens jersey. I'm still looking for a Lemieux jerseu like that

That Pens Jersey is bad ass and so much so I'm actually considering getting one.

I'm a fan of the skate. Wish they brought it back

From the Zack Kassian Van Sun article I had to bring this part over:

HAMMER TIME: Kevin Bieksa was on the receiving end of a hard hit from defensive partner Dan Hamhuis during battle drills Saturday.

“I think we have to patch those stop signs back on our jerseys,” Bieksa said afterwards. “I thought it was a little bit from behind, but his Mom was in the crowd, so I should have known he was going to do whatever it took to impress her.”

I drafted Johnny Hockey in my draft. Will Gaudreau stick with the club this season?

Yes.

I give him 20 games before he's injured/mired in a huge slump. But I'd bet he makes the opening-day roster.
