| Driving to Edmonton?
Hey all,
was seeing if anyone has driven to Edmonton before here and have any tips on which highway to take or what is a good time to leave?
I was mainly concerned on how the highways are maintained as my car is pretty low and I don't really want to raise it up for the drive

done it a few times, couple times during the summer and once in the winter. never doing it in the winter again.
if you wanna get there quick, leave at like 10pm.
Pros for night driving
Not as many cops at night, actually dont think i saw any lol. And not as much road work until about 4-5am.
None to little traffic.
Pros for driving during the day
the view, its amazing if youre into nature n shit. Lakes are so clear and trees on trees.
Cons for both- its a boring drive. So either switch drivers or just make sure you don't doze off.
More roadwork during the day, cops and traffic.

You might want to raise your suspension.. Either that or just rent a cuv. Thrifty has those new Jeep cherokees.

Done the drive hundreds of times in the past 12 years or so. I wouldn't recommend driving at night during this time of year. Animals are too retarded between Valemount and Edson. They are too used to vehicle noise and aren't scared of the highway and often people throw food out their car windows so there are high chances of coming close to them. I personally don't think there is an optimal time of day to leave, but, I would leave in the morning so you can be driving during the day the whole way. The highway is generally in pretty good shape all the way through.

I drove thru edmonton to fort mcmurray from vancouver before... prepare for a new windshield when you get back to vancouver because its summer they might be doing some re-sealing on the roads especially in alberta... hence lots of tar and pebbles... i took HWY 5 (Coquihalla Highway) and then on to HWY 16(Yellow Head Highway)... after kamloops there is basically no cell receptions, well for Fido atleast til u get to alberta border... roads are not bad with random pot holes here there til u get past alberta border then you should be fine... absolutely amazing view around jasper and in japser area... there is gas stops in every town on the way, so just fill up every chance you can and if you don't want to do that plan your fuel stops... btw no Chevron stations in alberta so i guess Shell is the next best thing...
