Not too long ago, ICBC sent letter to drivers who have recieved 1 speeding ticket and calling them a "dangerous driver"
So if you get a ticket for going 63km/h on 50 zone, you are considered as dangerous driver. So I guess they were calling safe drivers dangerous?
Anyone remember that?

Anyone remember that? | Those were for people with an N. It was pretty much a warning saying that you will lose your license if you get another ticket.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for upping the speed limit... BUT, do you really want the soccer mom painting her nails in the 2+ ton SUV to go faster? Ditto for the 70-year-old geriatric that can't see properly and has the reflexes of a turtle in quicksand (but is too arrogant to give up his license)? Or the new driver who wants to impress his buddies by weaving lanes on the highway? Or the C-Lai who needs to paint her pedals green and red so she knows which pedal to hit relative to the color of the traffic light? Etc etc etc.
Don't even get me started on the amount of poorly maintained cars I see with visible/audible engine issues, bad brakes, brake lights/headlights/turn indicators not working, people driving summer tires in the winter... should THEY be going faster as well?
IMO, a LOT of work needs to be done before we can even think about safely upping the speed limits... ESPECIALLY in BC. Let Supa's dashcam videos be a living testament to this rant. | |

^ you made a good point but I don't know if cars in US are substantially well maintained than cars in Canada.
The fact is, if you raise the speed limit, the death rate will go down.
Let's raise the speed limit up to 140km/h and see how many people are still willing to text & polish their nails, etc.
and raising speed limit won't cause people to drive any faster.
the average speed will stay the same, in other words, those problematic drivers that you are talking about will still do the same.
Nobody is going to be pissed if ICBC/Police are actually catching street racers, dangerous drivers, drunk drivers, etc.
I think people are pissed at ICBC/Police because they will try to catch commuter moms doing 65km/h(or whatever the traffic flow) trying to get home from work(yes, just like normal people like you) and saying that their doing their job to prevent tragic accidents such as DUI, Street Racing, Road Rage, Grand Theft Auto, etc.
Before even we can talk about that though, speed limits we have right now are way too low. We can all agree on this.
Virtually nobody, with an exception of grannies driving 40km/h on 50 zone, 0% of population are following the speed limit, that should tell you something.
or we can keep the speed limit the same just like you suggested, just so that we can keep old farts and grannies, people who barely passed the driving test, and never-maintained-beaters on the road, but why would you want to????

So all we are talking about is making what their speed legal.
So no the death rate will not go up.
Also even if they were abiding by the limits the difference between losing control at 100 and 120 is relatively similar. There is not some catastrophic difference between going 100 and 120. It's not like we are talking about 60 zones becoming 120 zones.
EDIT: On top of all that, if all of what you have said is true, which I concede some of it very well is. police should dedicate their attention to those problems and not people texting at redlights, and people going 100 on hwy 1.

lets not get our panties wet by acting like a dumb law abiding citizen, bitch plz
Not a single soul on hwy 1 follows the fucking lame ass speed limit, to me its just a reference, everyone is blowing past by 120 + and guess what thats the way it suppose be. Seattle is 99% relatively the same as van, well guess what their hwy speed limit has been 70mph for god knows how long, and they seem to drive just fine. I dont see any dead bodies laying around all over I5
some of u can act like u are a saint all u want saying its too fast blah blah blah blah blah
shit dont make sense with the gay speed limit no matter how u look at it, and thats the bottom line
