| Nissan Vision GT Concept (rumored R36 GT-R)
Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GT in the metal at Goodwood 2014
27 Jun, 2014 9:00am Jack Rix
Nissan unveils new Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a virtual supercar that could point towards all-new GT-R
Nissan has officially revealed the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, a 2+2 virtual supercar developed exclusively for the PlayStation-only Gran Turismo 6 racing game. The covers came off the real-life version of this virtual car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Available to download from July, the in-game version features an advanced aerodynamic body, and hints at “what a high performance Nissan could look like in the future.”
That’s because, having started as a design study for a team of young designers at Nissan Design Europe’s London base, the project soon caught the wider attention of the Japanese manufacturer.
This led to input from an advanced engineering team at the Nissan Technical Centre in Japan and, if rumours are to be believed, the radical styling theme could be our first pointer towards the next-generation GT-R Supercar, due in 2017.
It’s already clear several hallmarks of the GT-R are present and correct. This includes the large two-door coupe bodystyle, slim wraparound glasshouse and narrow vertical headlights.
The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo also includes a dramatic front end, with front air intakes that could swallow another car whole and a long bonnet that plunges down towards the low-set grille.
Moving further back, angular wheel arches cut into the sculpted flanks, while at the rear there’s a distinctive spoiler and massive diffuser.
This styling apparently brings race-developed airflow management to a road car environment, just one of numerous such technologies to have passed across.
Engineers in Japan did this with a view to ensure the virtual car performs as realistically as possible and, tellingly, attempted to evoke aspects of the marque’s previous performance models “but present them in a futuristic way.”
If this concept really does provide a glimpse into Nissan’s future design language, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out. Various company execs have already confirmed a new GT-R is under development, and sources close to Nissan have revealed it will use hybrid power.
The powertrain is likely to be a development of the existing 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electrical F1-style KERS boost system, developed in conjunction with Williams F1 as part of a road car engineering collaboration signed last summer.

So no, it won't be all curvy like Ferrari.

Once they tone is down from a prototype it might actually look good. Must be better looking then the current GTR at least.

It'll run 6:30 at the 'ring which Nissan will claim was done on a stock car, on a wet track and less than ideal conditions. Which means it could really run 6:15.

Does anyone else think the Nissan logo looks a bit plain and dinky on such a crazy looking car?

I happen to think it looks great and futuristic. After some refinement, and more exposure people will absolutely end up liking it.

I don't think this is going to be the R36 since Nissan is coming out with next Gen GTR in 2016-17. Perhaps this is an R37 concept coming out around 2020 hence the 2020 vision concept

performance for the dollar there's really still nothing the competitors have against it
the amount of R&D they put in seemed to have really paid off and could still ride out on the current platform until 2018+ IMO
remember the prototype in 2001? took them 7 years to finally ship them. Shit back then we could've only dreamed of having GT-R and Evos brand new off a local lot....now they're everywhere. |

The GT-R basically "won" the modern automobile. It is the new benchmark for performance in a tame, safe, grandma-could-run a high-10 package

It's definitely time for change.
We should have had R36 in 2010 and R37 in 2014...so if you're talking about 2018, we should be talking about R38.
Here's a previous lifespan:
R35: 2007-2014 (8 years so far)
R34: 1999-2002 (4 years)
R33: 1995-1998 (4 years)
R32: 1989-1994 (5.5 years)
R31: 1985-1989 (4.5 years)
R30: 1981-1985 (4.5 years)

GT-R is being nice and allowing the competition to catch up
For a street car, AWD is just too practical. I'll always love RWD and think it requires much more driver input and skill, but AWD is so much easier to go faster with!!!

That's why it went R30, R31, R32 all the way up to R35.
Skyline GT-R or Nissan GT-R, they are both GT-Rs. |
