VID: Watch a Brit make a Mini 4wd

Not one to make pointless threads, but this is pretty badass. Some amazing craftsmanship. He's converting a classic Mini, to hold the suspension and drivetrain from a 4wd Celica.

Awesome little series, including all sorts of fabrication tips and tricks. Great watch. I somehow haven't moved for the last hour. I'll post the first link, the rest are on the youtube side frame.

First thing I thought of when I read the thread title was this:

That was hilarious and informative.

Unfortunately ESL is not an excuse I can use for the lack of punctuation in the title.

Just finished the 6th and final episode (TBC). This guy is a sheetmetal master!

Racing Greed has an older mini that they're throwing a K20 into. They have future plans of using a CRV drivtrain to do a 4wd swap. Quite the project. It'll haul ass regardless of where the power's coming from.

Isn't there already a local mini with a b18c?

Timpo 07-14-2014 01:35 AM

When you said Mini 4WD, I thought you were talking about one of these

There is a ton of honda mini conversions. If you actually watch the video, this swap is being done without any sort of extension to the vehicle (which is usually required, and there is actually pre-made front subframes available for Honda swaps). This guy is hand making a piece of art, and it is unreal to watch. It looks as though it came out of the factory. The amount of work required is just insane. A premade honda swap isn't even close to being on the same level. Not too mention, you don't often find a shop showing off their tips and tricks which I found the most interesting about this swap. Like hiding tubular steel in the side tunnels etc, basically creating a faux tube frame to help stiffen the chassis.

It would be pretty awesome to see, but again, there is kits out there. I've been wanting to do this for a while. About as awesome as it gets.

I love Project Binky, as much as I hated seeing a Celica get stripped of it's important bits that chassis was getting pretty rough.

I fucking lost it when they first mentioned CAD - Cardboard Aided Design.

Halfway through Episode 3, and this has been a great way to waste a hot afternoon in the office. Wasn't gonna get much work done with this heat anyways...

CAD design was a pretty awesome joke. I can also relate to the kettle jokes, building the Rallybug the coffee press was pretty much going non-stop for 8months.

FYI.

Per the FB page:

Yep, we're on for Friday 31st July at 8.00pm BST for the long awaited release of Project Binky episode 10! We're excited, we hope you are too. There's all the usual stuff: grinding, welding, awful jokes, bad puns, TV and film references and some extreme fabrication. Join us next Friday for a bumper 30 minute feast.
I apologize for those that look forward to random new episodes dropping, but I am stoked to see how the project has progressed since episode 9...

StylinRed 08-05-2015 02:25 AM

its a good ep as expected

Just finished watching it and came on here to post.

In other news the project was actually featured on stanceworks:

Fabrication Friday - Project Binky by Bad Obsession Motorsport

Now while the project has been featured in many other prestigious places, this one was of notoriety because the project is different from their usual content, but even they recognized the brilliance in this car and series.

I seriously can't wait to see them start to do some of the body work, and actually putting in the motor.
