Hello everyone!!!
As you all know, our annual summer meet is happening in 2 weeks on August 17th (Sunday) and what better way than to get involved with RS CARES!
As per usual, we will be collecting all non-perishable items (canned and dried goods), and monetary donations towards the
Vancouver Food Bank. Take a look in your pantry, pick up that extra can of chicken noodle soup at the market or even ask your family and friends if they'd like to help out! Any donation is a lovely donation!!
Many of us are very lucky to be able to feed our stomachs daily with yummy and nutritious meals...however not everyone can be as fortunate as us.
FACTS:
-Between the summer months, the Vancouver Food Bank receives the LEAST amount of donations because of the summer holidays. Christmas holidays are their highest peak because people are more in the "giving spirit."
-A lot of children are unable to fulfill their 2 main meals (breakfast and lunch) because they're not in school. During the school year, certain programs provide food services to those in need.
-BC has the lowest conversion rate of monetary donations, $1=$3.
Please support us in making a difference this summer season and help us help our community. Your $5 latte equates to ONE full week's package to ONE individual.
This year we are also welcoming our partners at CANADIAN BLOOD SERVICES at our annual summer meet. They will be available on site for any questions and information on our RS partnership as well as an information booth on their One Match program for stem cell transplant.
FACTS:
-Every year, hundreds of Canadians need stem cell transplants to treat potentially life-threatening illnesses including cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and diseases such as aplastic anemia, immune dysfunctions and genetic disorders.
-Fewer than 25% of patients will find a compatible donor from a family member, 75% rely on the generosity an unrelated donor for available sources of stem cells.
-Patients are more likely to find a donor in their own ethnic group.
-An ‘optimal donor’ is young (age 17-35), male and ethnically diverse.
-Younger stem cells from male donors routinely offer patients a possible better post-transplant outcome by reducing post-transplant complications.
-The number of transplants for Canadian patients continues to climb.
Canadian Blood Services will be available to register any members on site or you may register at their website

RS CARES is all about giving back to our community and we really appreciate the love and support that all of our members give to our partners.
We can't wait to see you all on the 17th!!!
