rip nevertheless.

That is completely debatable.

There were 3 people in my family who went through with it. The pain hurts a fuck ton at first but over time we understand and accept it. We come to terms and admit that the person did not have to suffer anymore. Their battle could not be won. Outside influence could not help. They were able to live and enjoy some of their life but had to go.

I find it ironic that A-listers have all the money in the world yet they choose the path of destruction (drugs, suicide) to deal with their suffering (mental illness, depression, what have you). While I'm thankful for their contributions to media and society, I find it hard to be sad for them. I feel more sorry for their families who have to deal with their choices. I would feel more sad if a Hastings st. junkie killed themselves because they had no way out of the "system" because they probably never had the resources or support system to deal with it.

Excuse me for sounding soul-less. It's just the number of A-listers taking the easy way out that's got me thinking like this.

I am sorry that you truly and honestly believe money buys happiness and solves every problem.

fliptuner 08-11-2014 09:46 PM

By your logic, their families should be happy too, since they just got that much richer

BTW money also buys style and class.

throws a tbt with a cute photo then offs himself...truly I feel way worse for his daughter than RW

I surely hope his actions do not put his family in long-term depression...all the best to them.

Having money is irrelevant; if you're mentally not capable of fixing your depression, it doesn't matter if your therapist is a fresh University graduate or a $1000/hr professional.

I dont believe money buys happiness or solves every problem, but I believe it makes a lot of resources available. If the professional therapist doesn't work, the person can choose to not work and go on a soul searching trip to Africa to find out that cococa bean farmers have never tasted chocolate. Something that will put life into perspective and help them come around and see how well they have it compared to others and life is worth living. For many of us this could only be possible once or twice, but for these A-listers it not an issue at all. I have a lot of respect for A-listers who check into re-hab or go off the scene to get help and fight to overcome their issues instead of taking the easy way out by calling it quits.

Of all the celebrities in this day and age who have passed away, this is the first one that has struck a chord with me. RIP Robin, you just can't beat smart and witty. Not to mention just plain nasty when the kids aren't watching. You'll be missed.

capt_slo 08-12-2014 09:36 AM

Such a shame that a man who brought such joy & laughter to the world, battled for so long with his own demons.

RIP.

i think this is a common misconception.

killing yourself is the opposite of taking the easy way out.

if killing yourself was actually taking the easy way out, then everyone would be killing themselves left right and center. people love the easy way out, everyone is lazy and wants the direct path. everyone wants to take short cuts.

if i setup some suicide machine for you, and all you had to do was press a button, you wouldn't press the button, much like most of the world wouldn't.

pressing that button is probably the hardest and most brave thing anyone can ever do in their life.

from people that commit suicide to the martyrs of the middle east and japanese kamikaze pilots etc...

they all did the one thing, that most people don't have the guts to do. They made the ultimate sacrifice. They permanently gave up their physical bodies for the unknown. they took that risk.

i sure as hell aren't ready to take that risk. my reasoning is death is inevitable, i'll die later, so no need to die now. I'm not ready to die yet. The unknown and the risks associated with it are too high for my liking.

SiRV 08-12-2014 11:11 AM

I think if he were around right now to talk about his death, he'd say "Thank god they found me with my clothes on at least..."

RIP... terrible tragedy to a great actor and comedian
