Shared Ownership of F458 for $80K, Would You?

A new trend is popping up where friends are banding together to share a house share a mortgage in order to afford a house in Vancouver. Humans are always willing to adapt it seems.

UDI/FortisBC Index: Four people, four incomes, yet one house remains an elusive target

So why not put that same philosophy to a 300K CDN supercar.
If you could find a bunch of friends willing to chip in to purchase a supercar where each person could share the use of a F458, Aventador, SLS, GT3

2014 Ferrari 458 Italia - 1/4 Share Ownership

I know some members on here could afford $80k. $300K is out of reach but man if you could find your best friends to chip in this might be a win-win situation.

Were all car nuts here but man this is so tempting I would do this if I had the money. Just might have to eat Nongshim and cut back on my Starbucks coffees and other things.

Noreason 08-23-2014 09:58 AM

Yes you should totally do it!!! Good luck on your Craigslist ad.

Another awesome idea brought to you by sharktank.:heckno:

FerrariEnzo 08-23-2014 10:18 AM

Not sure... if someone takes the car out for a spin and gets a tiny scratch but doesnt tell anyone and dont take blame, then pin it on the next guy to take it out...:suspicious::heckno:
Friendship would turn into bitter rivalry.. or worse...
Can you even have multi-owner for car insurance? I wouldnt want my insurance rates to go up because of my friends recklessness at the wheel of a $200+ supercar..

Energy 08-23-2014 10:22 AM

Nope, I'm too OCD to share my car with three other people.

There are too many variable such as this for it to work successfully, but i guess if some people are determined enough :concentrate:

Mr.C 08-23-2014 11:00 AM

Rather own one full 456 GT or something.

boostfever 08-23-2014 11:04 AM

Does that mean you only get 2 Cylinders of the V8? :alone:

suzuka84 08-23-2014 11:23 AM

tragedy of the commons.

People seem to group together on a boat purchase. It will always go south.

DC5-S 08-23-2014 11:24 AM

this is the stupidest idea i've ever heard of

Timpo 08-23-2014 11:31 AM

This is very common in aviation.

If you go to any flight school, there are always posters on the board how they're looking for someone to take 1/3 or 1/4 of ownership.

Timpo 08-23-2014 11:33 AM

oh btw, I won't do it with Ferrari.

It's gonna depreciate like crazy. You'll still lose tons of money and yeah, when people make scratches, you don't know who to blame.

If I had 80k, I would just buy a 360 Modena and make it look nice.

360 Modena sounds much better than 458 anyways. F430 and 458 both have low and deep sound, whereas 348, F355 and 360 have high pitch F1 sound.

BoostedBB6 08-23-2014 11:42 AM

So the idea is for people to group together to try and afford a car they cant really afford to be able to use it some times and not afford to really operate or maintain it......sounds like a sound idea.

WOW.. I thought you would have said GTR
Spoiler!

bomiheko 08-23-2014 01:31 PM

I wouldn't mind doing this with friends, but it would be more of a business project. The cars we buy would either be appreciating value, or we can rent them out. My friend wanted to do a GT3, but I simply don't got the dough for it lol

E-SPEC 08-23-2014 01:38 PM

This is such a great idea that me and good friend of mine are going to jerk each other off. We might even finger each other too, its as good of an idea as this whole fucking thread, aint it?

flagella 08-23-2014 01:44 PM

I'll assure you in a couple of months, they will no longer be friends.

I haven't had many real close friendships in my life so its hard to say. If the ring leader is showing some grey, has driven nice cars his whole life, and has a clean driving record, I don't see why ICBC would decline. Add to the fact the 3 other drivers are gold-star drivers, how can ICBC say no? I'm going to check this out right now with an ICBC broker.

multicartual 08-23-2014 02:48 PM

Having had my Supra crashed by my former best friend from high school, then having it never quite repaired right and then blowing 2 engines trying to track down the problem that started when it was crashed...

I can honestly say it destroys friendships, creates depression, and empties your bank account

Took me years to get over.

nabs 08-23-2014 03:31 PM

I'm down, get a hold of me through PM, we only need 2 more people to go in with us.

serves you right for owning a car vs renting one, i kid i kid...that's actually why i don't lend my car out or take someone else's. this happened to 2 buddies of mine and it ruined the friendship within the group.

you're not talking about a car purchase are you  :ilied:

HKS PWR 08-23-2014 04:27 PM

Too much hassle, and too much that can go wrong like what everybody else mentioned.

The way to go would be buying a membership into an exotic/luxury car-sharing company. None of the hassles of owning an exotic, cheaper than renting, and you get to pick from a pool of vehicles of your choice.

TouringTeg 08-23-2014 04:37 PM

My buddy and I joke about going 50/50 on an R8. Guaranteed way to end a friendship though.

I know people that share a boat. They are long time friends and the boat is easier to equally divide operating costs. Not to mention it isn't used that often and wear and tear is usually limited to engine maintenance.

No it doesn't, I think it's the dumbest idea. They're clearly not living within their means.
Be happy with something else. 458 is just a Ferrari, maybe compromise with 360 Modena or Lamborghini Gallardo. Even cheaper ones like Acura NSX, Lotus Esprit, Porsche 911 or Dodge Viper. Last but not least, if you need something faster than 458 Italia for much less price, get a GT-R.

It doesn't matter if you're best friend with someone else.

Don't mess with money. Money will destroy relationships, friendships and sometimes family bonds.

People start business with their "best friends" and couple months later, there will already be in tragic arguments. They're both human, they will have tons of disagreements.
Your business partner purchased new papers? photocopy machines?
Well you might think that's completely redundant and waste of 300 bucks.
Your business partner might design a website that you don't quite agree with, give customer discounts that you're not happy with, things will pile up.

Husband/wife and boyfriend/girlfriend relationships could EASILY end with money problems.
People are willing to murder their family members for big money. Happens everyday on our planet, believe or not.
Parents are selling their children for $800 in poor countries to make them slaves/prostitutes.

Don't underestimate power of money, government and big corporations are willing to murder people, hide cancer cures, etc. Same as business people, doctors, lawyers, cops, politicians, anyone.
You can go murder someone just for fun, offer $200 million(or not even that much) to the government, you'll be off the hook. If you do research, you'll see all the "dark side" of money.

Timpo 08-23-2014 05:40 PM

Btw if you're having a relationship problems, read these books.
