So a quick question comes to mind, which mountain would you think has more flat and smooth run? Cypress "Panorama" run is not too bad. And the beginner run which I forgot what it's called. The one with a super slow chair lift lol.
Looking at kakucaekz's pictures of Sun Peak, that looks so amazing. Wide, flat, smooth run that's great for buttering and ground work. Even a nice terrain park as well. Although it's quite of a far drive. Maybe I'll consider going with a few friends and stay in.
I don't remember any runs in Grouse Mountain and I've never been to Seymour.

What do you guys think? Any inputs would be great!
Thanks

you want to find a run with as little pitch as possible.

To me, the first that comes to mind [locally] is panorama. Which is on cypress.

That pitch that is perfect is usually the one that people find trouble for keeping momentum. about 2-300 feet from the the strap point.

With a moderate pitch you'll feel more comfortable with changing your body position constantly, and it will give you more confidence to try it on a slightly steeper pitch.

Once you get the balance points going, you'll really enjoy it when you take it to floating pow.

Any recommendations for a beginner snowboard?

I snowboarded once in my life. 5'11 170lbs. 10.5 Burton Moto.

I'm checking craigslist everyday to find a cheap one to learn on.

have you tried sport junkies on broadway? sometimes you can find board boots and bindings for like $200-$400

And for a board type, i'd recommend a rocker. they dont clip the snow as often so you'll spend more time on your feet. but if you think you'll progress quickly maybe a camber would be for you

Went up to Cypress on Wednesday night and the snow was decent, kind of like spring riding, mostly soft, bumpy in spots from being ridden on all day, but there is just not enough snow. There were a few spots where boulders and rocks were poking out and just too much risk of ruining my board. Will have to wait until we get another dump before I go back, but glad I've finally been able to use my pass! Forecast calls for heavy snow next weekend, so fingers crossed!

I havnt gone once this year, since my back is fucked, couldn't be more thankful that this is the one year I don't go.

What a completely shit season for the local mountains.

I just want to go mountain biking, here's to praying my body is ready in time for next summer.

westopher 01-09-2015 10:09 AM

I didn't think it could be worse than last year, but it is. I got 1 pow day at least. Probably the only one I'll get. If it dumps again I'm just gonna go hit powder mountain catskiing a couple times instead of spending the money on 25-30 shitty fucking days like last year.

Ronin 01-09-2015 12:05 PM

I have a free season pass to Seymour...never been before.

LYC 01-09-2015 05:31 PM

I got super fed up about the local snow as well but I got a deal with Big Red Cats that I couldn't refuse. Super steep tree shredding and tons of bumps and pillows to boost off of. Plus the snow was actually good in there. Rode the next day at Red Mountain and it was absolute shit, had no snow. When it does snow there it looks like it would be an epic mountain. You can literally drop any direction off the peaks and catch a cat track back to a chair.

So if you guys are getting desperate keep an eye out on Big Red Cats website. They do last minute deals all the time to fill their cats. Oh and you can ski freshies weeks after a storm because their terrain is so big.

Is the road conditions going up cypress alright? U guys think my TL with all seasons will be fine? Buddy also bringing a WRX on summers if theres no snow on ground.

Website says 5 degrees in the day so cant be all that bad.

WVPD turns you around because of the winter tire requirements

Related: I was at Kamui Links today and found this in the parking lot. Any car can me made into good winter car with serious business snow tires.

TOS'd 01-20-2015 12:56 AM

^ same, bought a new jacket and bindings. havent gone a single day yet anywhere. :(

westopher 01-20-2015 11:34 PM

Bought myself new board, jacket, gloves, helmet, goggles. 5 day edge card, gold medal card and was ready to budget about $1000 more for lift tickets wherever I ended up.
Also planned to do a cat boarding day.
Bought wife new board, boots, jacket, pants, bindings, goggles.
I've ridden 3 times, once was good. She has ridden once.
One more year like this we will likely move. I usually shoot for 40 days a season, but there is no point in riding when you just do 2 runs and say fuck it.
