There's SOME snow on Cypress and it wasn't really icy when I was up there, but there's also rocks. Definitely don't take your new board up there unless you want to bust it up all nice on some surprise boulders. Very much regretting my pass so far. If we get a big dump I'll be up there all the friggin' time making use of it. Forecast calls for more rain up there this week, so it's looking bleak. DON'T TAKE NEWBS UP THERE RIGHT NOW. They will hate it and never go with you again. Wait for a good dump.

Looks like they've basically shut down Mt Strachan up at cypress. Forecast calling for nearly 200mm of rain between now and Sunday. Next week not looking much better so far

Sigh.
I picked up my new board and been dying to go to Cypress for the past weeks.
I wanted to go last week but I injured my neck.
I'm hoping to go this Saturday to try out my new board but it seems that their snow reports are just not looking great.
Guess I'll have to find some days off to hit up Whistler.

I guess it's kind of a good thing that I'm so busy with work and other things this winter that I barely have any time to go up to the mountains this year. My friends and I didn't even book a snowboarding trip to hemlock like we always do. I don't think they're even open for skiing and snowboarding.

Bought a silver pass to cypress and I really wish I didn't.... I went up for one day and I still had to pay for the day since it was a Saturday in Jan. If I wasn't so busy I'd totally be bitching and whining.

I don't know what Cypress thinks they're doing.
The base is literally 0. They are farming snow from a big pile that they keep near the parking lot. It's seriously 2% gravel and 98% snow.

Conditions | Manning Park Resort Official Website | Winter
Accoridng to their website the base is 108cm as of 4:20 this morning. I'm going cuz my friends are hardcore boarders and are itching as well. I've only been 3 times and I've got the itch too. We were thinking of going to Whistler but it's too played out. Manning will be a nice change of scenery as well.

They are roughly equal distances as well. I saw the snow report on their website but it didn't really mean anything to me because I have never been before. I did see that during the afternoon they only had 8/34 runs open. So I'm thinking they are struggling as well with the lack of snow.

Very good coverage. On piste it's well groomed and hard pack. The addition to Manning's groomer fleet is really helping.
Off piste (backcountry and Apple Bowl) is a hard rain crust underneath a layer of surface hoar. Breaking through the crust has 3-12" of soft snow.
There are no deep issues in the snowpack. The avalanche.ca snowpack summary is spot-on.

Worth the drive if you're jonesing for groomers on a fully covered slope
There is no pow...

Anyone ever go to Cypress on their birthday? I might go up next week and I heard you get a free lift ticket on your birthday. Is there a catch?

The catch is you will need a new snowboard after a run down the gravel hill.

The weather forecast on Whistler's website for this weekend is promising. I'm also thinking about going up this weekend, but I would expect the lineups for chairlifts are going to be packed with people. :/
