Honestly if a bury the throttle in my FX (By all standards a VERY AVERAGE car) ill be exceeding the speed limit everywhere I go...

I get the point of the post, but realistically a lot of the cars on the road today can completely demolish the speed limits set almost anywhere (especially BC), and I am not just talking in a straight line.

I could take most off ramps at speeds which would be classified as "excessive" on the main hwy in my 2007 toyota camry, and not break a sweat, and trust me there is nothing inspiring about a 4cyl toyota camry...

Your whole post, kinda brings me right back to this video from Chris Harris where he describes his 2cv as the greatest car ever, simply because of the fact that its so god damn slow:

Right on point,

driven several high power cars like R8 V10, 997 Turbo, and C6 Z06. The only times I can really have fun is really 1st gear going WOT.... that's about it sadly because space run out real quick. Really have to go out and find a empty stretch of mountain road outside the city to freely enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I guess you can sort of enjoy these kind of cars on the road, but it depends how big of an ass and how much of risk you are willing to take. From my experience, the older you get, the less worth it it becomes. But then again some of the wildest people I've ran into on the road were really old gentleman lol

Great post. From the title I thought this was going to be about how you have to worry about scratches, parking lot dings, and theft with a more expensive car.

I've had a couple sport bikes as well and the tickets that come along with it. Now that I am a bit older I enjoy a spirited drive in my 993 at lower speeds. It provides fantastic feedback and sensation of speed that is hard to put into words. Simply a joy to drive. I believe the driving experience is one of the reasons for the run up in air cooled Porsches.

The good news is your GT3 will not depreciate at this stage. It is more likely it will appreciate over time if you decide to keep it.

...and this is why I've fallen so deeply in love with classic cars. You think small brakes and tires on a honda are exciting? Try torsion beam and 165mm wide tires! Of course, that desire to have better and better handling means eventually you modify to things like "super wide" 205 series tires and crazy suspension setups...but still the point stands.

More fun to drive on a daily basis then any modern car.

Man, I can't compare to the cars you have owned to the stuff I've owned...

But having said that, I found myself having more fun with a crappier car. Screeching tires, faded brakes, all that body roll and no traction... it makes no sense at all, yet I have a huge grin on my face bombing around town in a POS.

Hell, Im having more fun with my winter beater 323 right now than with the Abarth or the Evo.

I think there's this feel of satisfaction when you rip a POS through the corner..... and pass a less capable idiot in a M4 showing off to his girlfriend.

Ripping around Stanley Park = Nurburgring

As I get older, I stop caring about the new cars as they all start looking the same, 'behaving' the same and start losing their soul since the connection with the driver becomes lost.

I own 2 cars that are 11 years apart and it shows in build quality and technology. That said, for pure thrills, I always opt for the older one. It's been cheaper to maintain, modify and live with. No complex parts, no stupid amounts of sensors and no waiting on parts.

I've been tempted to trade my newer one for an older car just because. Pay off the loan, buy something older in cash and no more debts plus owning a vehicle that would be cheaper to mod / maintain like the one I have now.

With sports cars (plus any new car in general) it's almost always an impulse purchase. You want it but do you REALLY need it? I've driven a few sports / luxury cars in the day and always told myself that while the stares I get were nice, it wouldn't be worth the cash flow (unless I could afford it which will never happen).

When I was younger, I was all for having the newest shit but now that I'm older (with bills to pay), I prefer to cherish to older shit. Keep them alive.

EDIT: I just realized that I DO get a lot of stares in my G8 (which are rarer to see on the street than a Porsche) but that whole thing has worn off for me. I don't care if people stare at me.

not to mention shitty cars hone your driving skills, forces you to be a better driver, unlike newer cars today with all the electronic driving aid.

jasonturbo, this is your future self. If you sell the GT3 you will regret it for the rest of your life.

I’ve had a handful of relatively inexpensive cars, stock and modified, before a friend suggested I try a P-car. I would have loved a ‘7 GT3 (in white as a matter of fact) but the ‘7s are well beyond my means. I then found a ‘6 GT3 that checked most of the boxes.

Re: Simply put, the car is TOO FAST.

- Acceleration: First gear is no fun in any car, second gear winds out to 120km/hr +, so if you feel like wringing the car out, you are playing a very risky game with the Police, and potentially the safety of yourself and others.
- Handling: You can take any turn in the city at 100km/hr+ and you will never even be touching on the capabilities of the chassis/suspension, and you feel this, it all feels very boring at any speed less than ludicrous.
- Braking: You can't legally achieve any speed that will even get these brakes warmed up.

I felt like you. Then I got over it.

Acceleration - switch to the cup car ring and pinion. You’ll lose top speed but you’ll have more fun on the street. After I switched to a 4.0 RP, I went from liking the car to loving it. I drive around with a dumb ass grin - no joke.

Handling - You have PSM. Can it be disabled and improve the driving experience?

Braking - You're bang on.

I’m a Honda guy. I loved my EM1. A buck and change felt fast.

Having lived with a couple P cars the past couple years, I appreciate inexpensive cars more now. Would I appreciate the GT3 less without having driven a Honda for 10 years? Most definitely. Would I say, cheap cars are more fun? I’m not sure…

Even though repair bills make me cry, the GT3 puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. This is why I intend to keep her for a long time.

I can understand what your getting at for sure.

I have had some very fast and rather expesnive cars (no exotics to speak of that I have owned) and at first they are a blast but they soon outlive there fun. I began to hate going on short drives because the brakes would be cold, or the engine did not have enough time to warm up, of that heavy clutch....god forbid I park it somewhere and it gets damaged.

I still have fun cars, but they changed a lot. I would like to get something small and fun to throw around the track like a Super7 or similar. Underpower, for me, has seemed to be more fun in the long run....but there are times I miss that 750whp monster

Love the DC2R was your fav car from your list. Love that you daily a GD STi. Totally feel you of the "car is too fast" tip. eg: a 997 turbo came back off lease so I decided to drive it for a week or so. Car was amazeballs and was everything I thought it would be and more. Once I got a bit more comfortable with the car I noticed how much trouble I could get into just going to pass someone. The power is insane and things can get out of control quickly. Power becomes addictive and there isn't a safe place to enjoy all that power. I soon grew annoyed that I couldn't drive it to it's full potential and barely got to enjoy 30% of it on the street.

I will own a 997 turbo one day as it is a bucket list car but since it will be a garage queen/track car I'll be using it in the proper setting to enjoy what it is is capable in a safe environment.

I wouldn't ditch the car but just go buy something else and store that bitch. It may be very hard to find a replacement down the road if you sell now.
