Cars are meant to be driven, smashed up and then rebuilt and/or sold to the next chump who had dreamed about owning what you just destroyed.

What's worse? Taking the bus, riding a fixie in the rain or having a GT3 365 days a year? I drive my piece of shit Corolla day in and day out, I ride my bike more than it's been driven. God damn, you people make me sick.

Ok bcr. That's an interesting layout you have on your Corolla.

Here are my two cents:
I had a 2007 RX8 from 2006 to 2012.

It was one of the most fun cars to drive.

I think... 230hp (I forgot) with cold air intake option.

It was extremely low (stock suspension), and even small bumps were felt strongly.

It was thrilling to drive.
-----------------------
Fast forward to the RS5 and it was definitely much faster and it's a smoother ride in general with more gadgetry to aid in driving (which can be turned off, but I don't).

It's height is much taller than the RX-8.

It's roomier too with a bigger trunk.

Here was the problem:
During the first few months, I didn't like the RS5.

Believe or not, the power band in the low end RPM-wise was very "meh".

It's also a heavy car, much heavier than the RX8.

Then, I tweaked the settings, actually read the instruction's manual, read audizine forums, and bam, it turned into a everyday fun car to drive, very smooth/not harsh, much more fun than the RX-8 with a lot more power... and this is everyday daily commuting! Not just the weekends.

Both the RX-8 and the RS5 have their own pros and cons, and the same thing, I think, applies to Jasonturbo's myriad of cars.

--------------

I think he only had the GT3 for a few months.

So, Jason, maybe... try it for a few more months?

--------------------------------

And no, not 1 single ticket yet on the RS5.

I think it is just knowing your roads and where and when to drive "fun" and when to slow down and relax.

The Sea-to-sky highway drives are always memorable, along with Seattle drives and Victoria drives (still have to try the Okanagan drives).

I have had only 2 tickets, and they were on my Honda CRV back in the days and my Q5 several years ago.

The RX8 had more feel, requires more attention, and the RS5 had less "feel" and needed less attention but had much more power.

Give and take.

Jasonturbo: Good luck on your next choice.

slowguy, if you are going to make "funny" comments, at least try to be witty and entertaining......

white rocket 10-07-2014 12:04 PM

I found his comment quite hilarious but hey, I'm white; so I guess that makes me a racist POS. lol! j/k, but not really.

jasonturbo: cool your jets before you sell. Take the winter months to reflect and digest the info in this thread and you own feelings about it. Hoon around in the STI and make a decision in the spring. At least if you decide to sell it will be perfect timing to achieve top dollar for the car.

Z3guy 10-07-2014 12:08 PM

^ White rocket, you didn't have to tell me you were white, because no asians live in Ladner! lol!

smoothie. 10-07-2014 12:09 PM

All I read was, "I'm retarded in the literal sense because this cars too fast"

So now I want a GT3

smoothie. 10-07-2014 12:14 PM

You also called my car a piece of shit numerous times.

Jerk.

white rocket 10-07-2014 12:43 PM

you are correct on the user name association but I just happen to be a white dude. Lots of Asian influence while growing up in Richmond though. Probably why I gravitated towards the JDM stuff early on. I had a Famicon while friends had the NES. The list goes on.

back on topic, jasonturbo: keep dat Pcar for the winter y0! no hasty decisions.

Z3guy 10-07-2014 12:53 PM

all pre 991 GT3/RS porsches are like Macallan 18yr or older single malt scotch, the longer you hold onto it, the more they will increase in value.

2yrs ago on Rennlist, before the craziness started on manual Porsche GT cars, you could have picked up a low mileage (under 20K miles) non tracked 2007 GT3 for low to mid 70s USD.

white rocket 10-07-2014 01:14 PM

^^well said. I'll add that my searching for a 2007-2009 997 Turbo has yielded increasing asking prices as those were the only years that offered a manual transmission. It's a shame that I can't pull the trigger today. In a year or two when I'm ready will cost me $10,000 easily. Fuck.

This would lead me to believe that jasonturbo's GT3 will always be worth what he paid and likely go up in value even if it just sits. More reason to not sell it even though it doesn't work for his life right now. One day it will, and it'll be worth a whole heck of a lot more.

Z3guy 10-07-2014 01:26 PM

^ you are totally right, I was looking at 07-08 997 Turbos as well 2yrs ago and they were going for high 70s low 80s, now good luck trying to find one for under $90K. The best bang for your buck right now are 04/05 996 Turbos...hard to find a better performance car for under $50K

Manic! 10-07-2014 01:33 PM

Vancouver sucks for driving. One way roads bike lanes and crazy traffic. Taking 15 minutes to go 200 meters is crazy. Also having drive for a hour to find a good driving road is nuts.

This is a road 5 minutes from my house. A minute before the first video starts I could have made a right and been on the highway to Tofino a road that has a lot of narrow parts and turns or Campbell River a road with lots of long straights and a top speed of 120KM.

Want good driving roads come to the Island. Day trip car swap? There is also a track with a road course being built here.

white rocket 10-07-2014 01:37 PM

The moral here is, don't sell that Pcar as it will appreciate over time. Buy a beater or another fun car to hoon around in and enjoy life. When you are ready to enjoy that Pcar that has been stored away it'll be worth more and you will enjoy it just the same.
