help with searching for a new phone

currently use an iphone 4s

it sucks. its slow. it keeps annoying me

i was looking online and came across the nokia lumia 1020. the 41mp camera is a +, but ive no experience with a windows phone as nobody i know has one where i can look at it and try it out.

anyone here have experience?

what would you guys recommend so i can look them up and try to do some cross referencing?

when it comes to phones, i know squat.

thanks!

You should try the iPhone 5s it's not a disappointment.

I don't see the reason for failing the OP. What makes the 5S not a disappointment? Or the iPhone 6 for that matter?

Phones are designed with planned obsolescence in mind to ensure the product life cycle meets manufacturers sales and marketing strategies. Apple seems to do a very good job of this so in a few years, OP will end up being disappointed again.

TOS'd 10-10-2014 08:35 AM

Would you recommend OP the Nokia 3310, bcrdukes? Don't you still use yours?

bcrdukes 10-10-2014 08:35 AM

STFU TOS'd.

And please, I use a Nokia 8390.

More MP does not mean better photos. With 41mp on a tiny sensor like that it will oversaturate with light very easily.
If that is the reason for this phone I would look at something else.

When a CMOS sensor is pushing the limits at 21mp having a sensor half that pixel with double the pixel count is simply to trick people into thinking its better and a marketing ploy.

Note 4 is my vote. I plan on picking one up when they become more available.

mos_skeeto 10-10-2014 09:57 AM

Windows Phone is a pleasure to use but it doesn't have as many apps as iPhones or Androids so if you're an app person I wouldn't recommend it.

We need more information. What do you use your phone for, what is your budget, how big?

Gucci Mane 10-10-2014 12:22 PM

if you want the best camera phone, its the iphone 6. nothing better than it on the market right now. if other features are more important to you such as customization then look at android. the s5 has a great camera and the android customization. even the htc one m8 has a pretty good camera.

windows phone? :heckno:

stewie 10-10-2014 12:56 PM

Was interested in windows, I'm not set on it.

My phone is mainly used for texting and calling, with some apps (solitare chess backgammon and the occasional random one). I'd always be able to keep the iPhone and just use it as an app phone. Same an an iPod.

My main concern is size. Phones keep getting bigger and bigger. I need something that can comfortably fit in my pocket and isn't the size of a book :p

bcrdukes 10-10-2014 01:13 PM

If size is of concern, you may want to pass on the Nokia Lumia 1020. It's a bit of a bulky phone, especially with the camera bulging out. That, and it is a slightly outdated phone in terms of specifications, especially when compared to what is available in the current market.

You may want to consider the Nokia Lumia 830 that is coming out soon if you're willing to give Windows Phone 8.1 a shot. Rumour has it going for a retail price of $400 without a contract.

I'm not too familiar with any Android equivalents so hopefully someone can chime in.

I hate my 5c. I just did the update this morning and its slower than ever, my screen will go black then freeze. i restarted it a few times. I need to get out of my plan so I can get a new phone for free. apple cell phones suck now. I love my MacBook and their other products but as far as a new phone goes android is taking the lead. by far.

sorry thats an old argument (2+yrs old) by those that didnt understand what nokia had done with their 41mpx cameraphones (there are 2 the original is better) and it was proven wrong but still parroted by others until the glowing reviews poured in. there's no sense in repeating why the viewpoint is wrong just google some reviews :)

nope

this is the best cameraphone right now although its lacking a proper flash

the Panasonic CM-1 Android

https://inspire.secure.media.ipcdigi...uct-shot-1.jpg

uses a 1" 20mpx sensor

then its the 1020, iphone 6/z3/s5/lumia 930/1520 (dunno how these last 5 actually stack up but they're v.close the 1520 and 930 are the same camera though)

All of the people I know with iPhones that aren't brand new are having the same problems she is.

yray 10-10-2014 04:24 PM

1020 is 8.1

My 920 is 8.1

:suspicious:
Bcrdukes you fuking noob. Flagship phones are usually supported till the last update.

Lumia camera didn't have a focus on pixels but was more of a focus on image quality and color rendering
OIS was also big too during its launch but it takes a while to get to know it.

bcrdukes 10-10-2014 05:19 PM

Oh shit, I thought Denim = 8.1.

STFU bcrdukes

:okay:

Here's a tip, don't buy the crappiest iPhone apple offers. The 5c is a 4s with a bigger screen. I've got the iPhone 6, not a single issue here. Very happy with my purchase.

That's not a phone. It's a camera with phone capabilities. The iPhone is an actual phone first that comes with a very good camera.

Mr.HappySilp 10-10-2014 10:10 PM

I would say if you want something small (less than 5 inch display). I would get the Iphone 6, Sony Xperia Z3 compact, Moto X 2nd GEN or even the Samsung S5.

If you want a big phone but on a budget get the 1 + 1

Not on a budget get the Note4 or LG G3.

Now here is the thing no one call tell you what you want in a phone. You have test it yourself. If you aren't sure you can always test it. With iPhones there are apple stores with Samsung there is a Saumsung store in metro. For myself I personally feel deciding how big you like your phone to be is one of the most important thing. If you are like me who likes to keep phones in his front pocket then you need a phone with 5inch or less on display for sure.

If don't care about size and is looking for a good with good battery life then maybe you need a bigger phone or phones with good features on battery life.

It all depends on you.

Using IP 5S not issue at all with the new updates. Still pretty smooth and no battery drains.

EmperorIS 10-10-2014 10:48 PM

iOS: Iphone 6
Android: Sony Xperia Z2/3
Windows: Don't get Windows yet.
