Rb or 2J swap in Z Considering an RB25/26 swap in a 280z, but I keep getting smacked in the face with the idea of being sack religious and stuff it with a 2J.. Thoughts? |
LS |
I know a couple of local rb26 in 240z and if they did it again they would go chevy LS or possibly Nissan VK. But if they put an LS or VK and asked again maybe they would say they wish they went RB/JAYZ. How big is your budget? |

Fuck sack religious and shit. There was a 2JZ swapped 350z at NissanFest this past year. It was the coolest swap there I think... |
"2jz no shit" |

Sack Religious? what. the. fuck. Put some vtec in that shit. No one will know the difference..... |
*sacrilegious Just put in any engine you want, it's not anyone else's car Put in anything that gives you the most horsepower you want :fullofwin: |
Pray to my balls. Join the teabag mafia. :fullofwin: |
I kind of want to sell my E36 BMW so I can get a cheaper platform, say, a 2.3 fox body, and then convert it to turbo and run MegaSquirt on it, learn how to tune it myself. What about that 280Z racing engine on Craigslist advertised for $4,900? |

I was around people telling me things like swapping a 2jz in a 240z is sacrilegious. :heckno: |

What I've learned with engine swaps is that the little things are what are costly, leaky headers, getting the accessory fittings just right, positioning of the radiator, fans, the wiring. Takes a lot to get everything "factory" on the car and some things may never, ever be "factory". Maybe better, if you can afford it! What you think will cost 3k will end up costing 6k! |

Not a huge fan of the foxbody, but those things are fast. I'm not seeing that on craigslist, and that's a bit out of my budget :okay: |
+1 for LS swap. Or SBF... |
Small block Ford entire drivetrain, ecu, every last bit can be had for welllllll under $2,000 |

The other thing you can be positive of, is it will end up taking double or triple the time you thought it would. lol. Ask me how I know... |
You've started threads "Debate between Datsun 280z and silvia" and "Datsun G-nose conversion." Now we've got a thread on an engine swap. I question your dedication to your 280z. I would hate to see a half complete project with a boatload of parts appear on craigslist because of poor planning and under-dedication in the execution. Every time you see "510" replace it with "280z" Keep the L28. |

Have you driven any cars with these engines? I'd say take each for a drive and see which of the engines you like more then go from there |
I had a stroked 3.1L L28 with triple Mikunis and I'd still prefer it over any of your choices. Seeing your other threads, it seems like you don't even have a car yet, let alone driven the L28. |
It depends if you want boost or if you want N/A too. Do you like the boost kicking in or just pure power throughout? Unfortunately, 3K will not get you an LS swap into a Z. It will definitely cost more than putting it into say, a 240 (I know because mine is LS swapped). There's a lot more custom work you need to do.. and also the drivetrain and suspension to be able to support the power is going to be something to think about too. Not saying a 2J is going to be any easier (or cheaper for that matter), but just from an LS perspective.. it's going to cost triple your 3k. You can probably get an LS motor for 3k if you're lucky but that doesn't even include the swap parts, tranny, cooling, and other things to get it running. My suggestion for 3k is either do a older V8 swap like the LT1 or just some small chevy block for ~$500. Then add the work ontop to get it running.. Or if you want boost, then even an SR20/RB20 would be a little more than 3k to get it running. This is if you do all the work yourself. |
Just buy this one. It will probably be cheaper. 2JZ OVERKILL Z FOR SALE?! 35K obo - Cars for Sale - HybridZ |
LOLz'd @ Sack Religious. be unique, rotary engine that ish. |
