Not saying it's a bad price for what you're buying, I haven't had to buy new tires for any newer type of car really... so I'm out of loop on pricing for stuff when TPMS etc gets involved or anything more than 17" really... but wow that's heady $2k+ sounds cray to me from a sticker shock perspective

Yup god damn Bluetooth TPMS, it's a hefty chunk of money too at $300 bucks for the set.

I tried running cheap winter tires, half a step up from Chinese tires, and it was horrendous. Doesn't catch any grip on snow. The tires in question were the Momo North Poles

Price is good though they gouging u on the BT tpms sensors. They came down a lot in price.

Remember to put ur car in off road assist mode when it snows.

I'm not at that stage in my grieving process yet... still at denial. I'm sure acceptance is just around the corner? :alonehappy:

Do you have to get the BT TPMS with Tesla ... I mean, it wasn't long ago that we just visually check or inflate air every 2-4 weeks.

I would have tried to find OEM rims on FB $400 ... maybe, $800-$1000 on tires, and forget the TPMS. $1500-1600 all in.

beatdownvictim 08-30-2024 10:42 PM

I talked to factor e and they have sourced a supplier from china with the bt tpms..look on marketplace too looks to be half the price of what tesla wants

The tires that worked well for me in Ontario/Calgary had a reallllly tough time in Vancouver: XIce 3, Nokian WRG3 all got wrecked by the slippery snow/slush

roastpuff 08-31-2024 08:27 AM

X-Ice Snow should be good for both - XI3 had sipes packed too closely to deal with wet snow/slush.

AstulzerRZD 08-31-2024 08:40 AM

Yeah, the Snows were way better on my s2k

sonick 08-31-2024 08:44 AM

Sounds like x-ice snow is the way to go for our slush rain snow.

noclue 08-31-2024 09:01 AM

The shit thing about Calgary is they prioritize plowing residential streets last and sometimes pray for a chinook to melt it. But the chinook turns the streets into a sheet of ice and they have to come spray gravel which of course crack windshields thanks to Calgary's large dodge ram population without mudflaps. You definitely need a good set of winter tires there, I'd argue even studded.

I just gonna get you to come fly me everywhere when I get rich off the oilfields

yeah idk why people like blizzaks
the winter compound is only first 40% of the tire
they become bricks after that

When you need that bite, the Blizzaks (in their first half of the tread) do have them thanks to the crazy sticky multicell compound. The newer Blizzaks' compounds last a bit longer which helps. If you're willing to have that tradeoff (faster wear and basically not as good after the first 50%), they're a great severe winter tire.

Total overkill for Vancouver area except for that one crazy snowfall a year IMO.

EDIT: Pricing wise the Blizzaks tend to run 15-20% cheaper than Michelins, and on par with Continentals. So that's a factor too.

Acura604 09-01-2024 10:34 AM

had my set of X-ice Xi2 for 3yrs now....

has not lost any bite yet.. but they're on for maybe 4 months at 4000km per year tops and i barely drive as I work from home. Seriously tho....we get maybe what?.. 2 major dumpings per season in the city.

What’s your take on Blizzaks vs Nokian stud less for a severe service tire in Alberta/interior BC?

I’ve also been really curious bout the Toyo GSI line and their ‘walnut shell compound’ stud less for ice braking and steering. Haven’t been able to find any independent test results that can be compared

Nokian price premium over Blizzak isn't worth it for studless IMO - I haven't tried the latest (R5?) but the R3 wore almost as fast as the Blizzak DM-V2s on my Subaru Forester when I lived in PG. The R3 were also fairly squishy similar to the Blizzaks so I don't really think they have a dry/wet performance advantage either.

Blizzaks are Costco were a good deal hence that's why I went with them after the R3s wore out.

The Nokian studded tires are tops though. The Hakka 10s are amazing, and the current favorite of the ice racing crowd lol.

We had Toyo studded tires on the work vehicles (or Nokian LT studded tires on the trucks) and they were decent, but loud.

Bought a set of Continental Viking Contact 7's for a crazy low price, thanks to you!

https://www.tire-reviews.com/images/...gContact-7.jpg

Couple of FYIs:
-apparently this 20% coupon applies to all tires and wheels at PMCTire, not just winter tires. some kind of glitch.
-deal expires 9/15
-i ran into an issue where i couldn't apply the coupon if i was logged in to eBay. the PMCTire rep suggested logging out and that worked lol.

Are these better than the Michelin X-Ice Snow for vancouver?

About to pull the trigger on the Michelins but they are on the top-end of the winter tire pricing, hesitant if the premium is worth the difference vs something like the Altimax Arctic that I have been running on my last few vehicles...

Another note to add would be this.

According to a PMC rep on the RFD forum, the discount is capped at $350 off max. In order to maximize tires wheels and TPMS (if needed) you can order them separately by utilizing two separate eBay accounts, and messaging PMC on eBay to combine the orders for mounting and balancing.

I heard they're pretty close, with Viking 7s having the edge on ice, and X-Ice Snow having the edge on snow and slush.

For me, ice is the most important thing because sliding through ice = accident, whereas getting stuck in slush is moreso just annoying (and getting stuck in deep snow would be entirely on me for messing around).

But for the excellent price on the Continentals, tbh I would've been fine if it was even in the same league as the X-Ice Snow / Blizzak WS-90, which it seems to be!
