They ended up telling me to book my installation.
You should try and see if you can book your installation so you don't get a spot in January.

Wow, we bought through Costco online for my wife's Mazda3 and had them in a week. Bridgestone WS80, so far they are awesome.
We also bought Pirelli Wintersnow sport for my sister in laws GTI and they are pretty nice as well.

We got my wife winters at Able Tires in Surrey. It's a small mom and pop shop, I think the turn around for her was about 4 days from when she booked to install and that was a few weeks ago.
We were really impressed with the service, probably be our go to tire place moving forward.

Having had a proper test in challenging weather yesterday, I can say that the WS80 are a clear 2nd to Hakka R2s in several categories. - Traction and stability at higher (60-80km/h) speeds in slushy and compact snow sections are not as good as I would have liked, as I could feel the tires lose and gain traction, and resistance from slushy patches could be felt.
- Feedback when it loses traction isn't as good as the Hakka R2 - you don't get info on the limits of the tires as much as you do with the Hakka.
- Dry/wet traction is a step behind. You can feel the tire struggle to go through deep puddles. The sidewalls are softer and the tire doesn't seem as willing. Wanders during high speed cruise in normal weather.
Overall, it's still a good tire, I'm not afraid of getting stuck in bad conditions given that I drive accordingly. But if the price difference is minimal, then it is better to go with the Hakka R2 given that they both wear about the same and the R2 is the overall better winter tire.
Some pictures of the insanity yesterday:

Kal Tire website listed them as around $330+tax per tire, so $1600 installed sounded about right.

Just about time to put my winters on - according to the car, it was 4C when I was driving last night. I really like having them in the garage and being able to put them on when I feel right rather than having to take a stab at booking them into a shop and then maybe running winters for a month when it's 15C outside.

Switched from hankook ipike studded suv to hak 9 studded on my truck, holy the change was dramatic, i was driving from prince george to fort st john and the hak 9s would just bite in the the compact snow and ice, compared to the ipikes where i would have some slippage which scares the crap outta you... @60km going through the twisties

Just want to send a shout out to the Tire guys at Costco in Coquitlam. My GF ordered some tires online for her Jeep and it was a week wait. When she booked her appointment the system fucked it up and basically she didnt have an appointment. So from the day her tires were in, it would've been a 3week wait at a minimum. Luckily the Coquitlam location just started a walk in process. She went in on a Monday at 6AM to try to get 1 of the 4 walk in slot.. Apparently the slots were all filled up from walk ins who were waiting at 4:30am. CRAZY!
My girlfriend wasnt very happy with the whole situation, but one of the members there offered if she leave her car there around 6PM, the guy would have the tires changed by 8AM the next day, as he usually arrives around 4:30am.
Again thanks to the Tire guys at Costco Coquitlam, I know these months are always hectic and I really appreciate how you guys are doing your best to keep the customers happy.

Don't know how Costco rewards their employees, but filling in one of those "how did we do" forms would surely do no harm in this case.

toyo celcius cuv, or kumho solus ha31. They're good all weather tires that perform well in dry, wet, snow and ice, and they wear pretty good. Yeah they'll only last 4-6 years because you'll be running them all around but Tire change over is 100$ each time roughly, that's 200$ a year that's 800-1200$ there's your next set of tires. Add in storage costs and you save more. Most tire shops don't like recommending these tires because of majority of them do tire storage as well. They lose tire storage fee and swap over labour but you break even in the end.

^ all weather tires are just that, all around mediocre. won't get the best of everything like a dedicated summer/winter combo. It isn't about the money.

All weather tires are the 'jack of all trades, master of none' of tires. Sure, they may have the mountain snowflake on them, but their compound isnt as pliable as a true winter tire and they're too soft for warm summer days.
Besides, pay $100 to mount proper winter tires to a set of steelies and then store them in your garage or backyard when it's time to take them off. No need to pay a shop to constantly mount and remount rims on your car when it's a 10 minute job in the driveway...

They all have all-weathers and they work fine. They're not doing anything special and compared to the tires they used to get (Wal-mart/Canadian Tire specials), they're way better at everything, anyways.

Don’t think anyone is allowed to definitevely throw stones at all weather tires until they’ve driven on them. WRG3’s are fucking great in the snow. Comparable to any snow tire I’ve used.
....which means you might as well buy real snow tires
