Picked up a set of Firestone WinterForce 2's for the X1, hopefully the redesign is a little quieter.

Picked up a set of super lightly used Maxxis MA-AS (severe snow certified) all-seasons for dirt cheap. First time using anything rated for winter use, only because I absolutely needed to as Conti ECS wouldn't play well in low temps and snow

I have studded Nokian Hakkapelittas and they worked like a champ when it snowed 40cm in Calgary last week. Surprisingly quiet ride on dry pavement. Happy with the purchase so far!
Studs for mostly city driving is probably overkill but got them cheap on Craigslist |

Interested in the Hakkapelitta R3 but concerned they will wear out after a couple winters... | The R2's were fairly soft and wore accordingly. On my old Subaru Forester XT I'd estimate about 3-4 winters (around 20,000KM-25,000KM) out of them. Not as bad as the WS80 but they were definitely not going to last as long as a Michelin XI3. Do not have experience with the R3's due to how new it is.

Wife and I driving up to penticton in 2 weeks, G37 has good all weather tires that have performed well in wet/Icey conditions so far so I’m feeling good about it.
However, going to penticton it’s almost equal going through the crows nest or the coquihalla, I’ve never driven the crows nest in the winter, is it typically better than the coq?

Very windy compared to the Coq, with steeper drop offs and less guard rails. How confident/experienced are you?

Driven the coq lots in the winter basically due to always going around merrit/kamloops for snowmobiling, hunting etc. never driven her car in snowy conditions yet though but I’m fairly confident.
Guess it’s just playing it by ear and checking out the highway cams

When I drive the coq or whatever in snow and I have to pass vehicles, crossing the ‘ridge’ of snow between lanes can get pretty sketchy. My two busted fog lights are both from coq. My friends like to go up to manning park once the lakes have frozen over to do some lazy snowshoeing, I’ve never had an issue. Though the last time I went there it dumped almost 30cm overnight and the drive was careful.

They're 17" are about $100 cheaper.

Been trying to find some cheap wheels for my 2011 Honda Odyssey and it's pretty damn expensive. Unless that's the norm.
Costco 17 steelies will set me back 400 bucks before tax

Michelin X-Ice XI3's were $200/ea for 225/50/18 on Oct. 8 while Costco was offering a $70 cashback card on Bridgestone WS-80/DM-V2'S that were going for $208/ea. At the time, I was having a hell of a time deciding whether to go for the Bridgestone's or to wait until Oct. 9 when the Michelin promo came into effect.
The same Michelin's today have been jacked up to $245/ea and the same Bridgestone's are $215. I'm glad I pulled the trigger when I did.

Any comments on nexen windguard? They're about $110 usd each in my 18" size and seems to be the cheapest I can find unless you go into no name China brands.

Got my Toyo Celsius tires mounted yesterday, onto my $200 Enkei wheels
For those looking for wheels, just keep an eye out on craigslist/FB marketplace. I've seen several deals, and don't be afraid to take on a repair/paint project yourself. My $200 curbed up Enkei's look great now.
As for the tires, not sure what's going on. But the tires I got (235/45/18) were $257 on 1010, then 3 days ago dropped down to $207-208, and this morning they are back up to $255~. At least I got them pricematched yesterday when I got them mounted :-D |
