Got myself a used set of Hankook Winter i*cept Evo2's in 225/45/17 and quite interested on how they'll drive. Always had Michelin Xice; so we'll see.

I ordered the XIce from Costco, you get a $110 Costco card when you buy 4 Michelins for the next little bit.

^^ be aware Costco install price has gone up. So that gift card doesn’t “go as far” as you’d think

Do you have to install at Costco?

Is $20 size dependent? I get 19s done for $20 at another shop. So 17s are cheaper or a case of beer.

Any hints if there might be another install promotion (1cent) during the Michelin promo?

Went up Sep 1, there's also a fee when claiming warranty claims now.

I think you can pick up at the warehouse and not install at Costco.

$20 is for all sizes - flat rate. Which is nice when you have 20's or larger lol.

Stock is 205/55R16, 195/65R15 is the same diameter and seems to be the most common size that I can swap down to? 205/60R15 or 215/60R15 seem non-existant. I'm leaning towards the Michelin X-Ice 3 since she liked the 2 on her Prelude. Does anyone know if the 3 is stiffer or behaves drastically differently?
High side walls on winter tires really create excessive body roll on the S2S highway. I went to large rims and low profile tires just to feel planted on the road versus the tire feeling like it wanted to fold under my car.

I still swear by Toyo Garit KX tires for our West Coast winters. Really good traction in the rain, standing puddles, and snow. I was able to drive them to the wear bars before feeling like they were a little loose in standing water on the highway; they sipe their tires to the wear bars whereas many winter tires are only siped 50% of the tread - prompting replacement.

She doesn't drive anything like the S2S, her car is pretty much only used around town so comfort definitely trumps handling performance.

I thought it did, though it's still the same or cheaper than most other places so that's a wash. Even with taxes and stuff I'm only paying about $100 more for brand new tires vs used ones after the gift card (since I'd need to pay to have them mounted either way).

I left the tire shop so no idea on the next penny install. I didn’t know they charge for warranty now too. Man that place sucks now.

Bicbaws, you only get the warranty if they install.

Shopping for winter tires for my RDX and am jealous that the Europeans get new models so much sooner than we do. We've only gotten the Dunlop Winter Sport 4D this year while they're already on v5 since 2015 while Michelin has the Pilot Alpin 6 out since last year in the UK while I can't any stock of the Alpin 5 here in my size in North America at all.

Speaking of Europe, anyone try or heard anything about Vredestein? I looked into it a couple years ago as a very good rain tire because it rains a ton in Europe, as it does here. Maybe their snow tires will match our climate too.

I donno about you guys, but just spend $500 bucks on a set of AltiMaxs. IMO you don't need to be chasing the latest and greatest in compounds and treads. We're driving around in like 3 inches of snow here for 6 days, not rallying across Antarctica.

I'm looking at the other spectrum - I want less winter capability and more performance capability. I want a performance winter and those are more of a compromise than the generic Blizzaks and X-Ices so getting the latest model is often worth it.

At the same time top of the line tires only cost a little more than cheap ones. All in, after install, rebate, taxes blah blah blah a brand new set of X Ices was $575.

Planning on end of Oct for me, but I've got all-seasons on the daily driver.

Well, it already snowed on the coquihala so it’s an easy answer if you’re doing highway driving. Otherwise you can wait until nights start consistently dropping below 7°c

Does anyone have a modern all-season vs all-weather/dedicated winter comparison?

The 7°C benchmark is talked about a lot but it is usually provided without reference or references dedicated summer vs dedicated winter (and an old comparison at that)

Many people have claimed that UHP all-seasons are fine in the winter (eg Conti DWS) but at what temps/conditions are they superior/inferior to dedicated winters?
