It's about time they realized those are what people want. Toyota trucks in the 80's to 90's were in their prime in design, IMO. And of course the 70's Land Cruiser which didn't change much til the 90's. Hence their popularity as JDM imports, and the fact that you still see them on the road. This is a smart move by Toyota.
Now just bring back the late 90's 4Runner and you're in the money...

Considering how it would probably fail most if not all North American crash tests, I'm not surprised it's not coming to here. It's a shame though.

^ FRS is only a new AE86 in spirit. A new AE86 with a power boost would be much better.

You know you've failed as a company when people are more excited at re-releases of old cars than they are for the new cars.
Personally I don't see why all these Japanese car companies just get it into their head that North Americans would like a small 4x4 diesel, manual pickup/SUV too? Especially when you consider the price of gas here and that not everyone has the space/need for a F150-sized truck. Considering Toyota has the technology in place already I don't imagine them as being too expensive...

This is absolutely fucking awesome. I can only hope this opens the floodgates for real retro styling with updated tech instead of abortions like the mini, and challenger.
Holding out for a longhood 911 to come back with a 3.8 metzger gt3 drivetrain and interior.

I still want one of the early 2000's V8 4Runners for some reason, it's funny the vehicles people have an unknown desire for.

Look at the 2015 model Land Cruiser 70 and Original Land Cruiser 70, they look very similar, almost identical.

The engine and transmission are lifted straight from the newer Tacoma/4Runner, so it would make sense that it wouldn't be sold here. Would buy if it was a limited release though.

A lot of oil companies here lobby with the federal governments to prevent the spread of diesel vehicles entering North American soil in order to protect their own domestic automotive markets and especially the oil industry.
The Japanese manufacturers know what we want, but aren't allowed to sell. I don't think any of them have failed as a company. The real people who have failed are the consumers.
