got e-coli and was in the hospital for 3-5 days (years ago) after a day of eating Kyung Bok Palace. Stay the fuck away! Thought about sueing but it was a live and learn experience to never eat at these korean BBQ places. Risk is not worth it!! After I was healed, i had a lengthy talk with my busy hospital doctor about the results of these korean BBQ places and it is astonishing to hear how many incidents have happened regarding the dirty meat.
just an FYI, I never understood what e-coli really was... I all i know is that it is a bacteria and was mentioned a few times in Biology class in high school. Just imagine going to the washroom every 10 minutes with nothing but water and blood coming out. 24/7 cramps and not moving anywhere.
Stay safe OP.

My in-laws and I went to try Kyung Bok Palace a few months back and saw a mouse under our table. We told the waitress and she shrugged it off. We promptly got up and left.

Lol Kyung Bok Palace is complete garbage. Been there with friends. Service was slow. Food was slow and many dishes did not come at all. We put down two orders of chicken and we got none. The food isn't even that great.
I'm no food connoisseur, but I definitely disliked the way the food tasted due to its quality and lack of passion.
Place was busy as hell. And we complained to the manager that waiting 40 minutes for a dish of chicken and our stove kept turning off was unacceptable. Manager didn't even do anything satisfactory to help us.
We went to Aberdeen next time for the Korean place and that was MUCH BETTER. Food tasted better and the servers looked happy and not stressed the fuck out there. I left my hat that night and when I came in the next couple of days they even remembered me. Has my vote.

Went there once a LONG time ago, ordered a Bi Bim Bap. Food took forever (probably around 45min) and it wasn't busy at all.
When my rice arrived, there was no beef in it. I ordered it with beef. So the waitress had to go check (which for some reason took close to another 10 min) and then she came back and said "no you didn't" while my rice was sitting there getting cold. I mentioned that I was pretty sure I did, but if I didn't could she change the order and add beef to this plate?
She rolls her eyes and left, then came back with a little sorry blob of meat on a tiny plate and said "there".
Got the runs that night.
Never, going, back.
Back on topic, can't think of any really good AYCE Korean BBQ places in Richmond. But Haroo is a really good Korean restaurant on Alexandra (old Tea Hut) or Maruchu has pretty good Japanese style BBQ. Not AYCE though.

How about skip the AYCE, and go to a respectable restaurant with good quality ingredients, and order a la carte?

"good" and "all you can eat" can never be used to describe the same restaurant.
The best an AYCE place can strive for is "acceptable"

The best an AYCE place can strive for is "acceptable" | I think that applies to local/Vancouver only.
Because all of the AYCE places I've been to in Japan were all FREAKING AMAZING

I don't have too much experience with AYCE in Japan, but I'm 1 for 1.
Gyu-Kaku in Osaka was, AYCE grilled meat, and it was all high quality meat, $17 CAD. Pure awesome. Much better than the Gyu-Kaku in Vancouver.
Also the AYCD (all-you-can-drink) for $12 in many izakaya's, Japan.

Never knew about AYCE Korean BBQ places in Richmond.
Granville & 15th is my go to spot. Prior was Shabusen, and now is Kyo.
AYCE Korean BBQ & Japanese sushi.

The best an AYCE place can strive for is "acceptable" | The only place for me personally that is the exception to the rule is Mongolian Hot Pot at Landsdowne mall. For me they just seem a level or 2 up for me compared to other AYCE joints. With that said, completely agree though. Even my favourite AYCE places like 10-15 years ago when I was younger and didn't quite have the palette to enjoy the finer foods were just acceptable at the time. Even when we would comment on saying a place was good we always had to add the "for an AYCE place" statement in there.
