Please let me know what you think about it when you get it set up
I've set it up last night and looks pretty good so far. Still need to play around with the settings to configure the picture quality.
- Watched some 4K content and it looks amazing
- 3D works as advertised, nothing much to comment about that.
- Watched a bit of the Bruins/Ducks game on it and didnt notice any ghosting.
- Played a bit of NHL 15 on Xbox One and that was fine as well
I turned off all the motion smoothness in the settings and just had it running at it's native refresh rate.
For the price I paid, I think it's worth it. Especially since I'm upgrading from a 6+ year old lcd TV (much smaller too). In the end, if I need to upgrade in a couple years, it doesnt hurt too much since this TV cost < $1000.
Where were you watching the 4K content from? Netflix?
Have you watched any upscaled content 1080-4k?
Also do you know or have noticed, do blurays that are produced at 1080p 120hz when upscaled does it play at 4k 120hz or is the native rate 60hz always with4k? This is one of my main concerns because if sports etc are upscaled but played at 60hz might not be the best?

Netflix/Youtube. I'll throw some blurays on tonight and see.
Ended up buying the XBR55X850 today from futureshop. Price was still $1899 but the sales guy gave me $150 off when I was about to walk away. Unfortunately they didn't have it in stock so I've got to pick it up from the wharehouse on Monday :/
Price guarantee for 30 days but not on Boxing Day. Would think If this TV does go on sale it will be longer than the single day.
Excited to see it setup, never been a fan or have really seen "good" 3D, this TV is passive but they say with the 4K it's about as close as getting the full experiance that is available

FS has a 20 day price guarantee, odds are if it drops it will stay on sale for longer than just Boxing Day so might aaa well grab it now then watch for price adjustments

Filming a 4K TV with my iPhone doesn't really do it justice lol but honestly this Is hands down easily the nicest TV I've ever seen and I've always been into TV's, new technology, etc have had 1080p 3D projectors, watched very nice plasma sets etc and this TV stands alone.
Out of the box the settings are excellent, the new "touch" remote is pretty cool, only 4 buttons and the rest of the functions are done with swipes and clicking the touch pad, I like it a lot, however the GF seems to have some trouble with it lol. Also comes with your typical Sony remote so if you don't like the touch you can use the classic remote.
The Set has a tonne of built in features and fully integrates the PVR into the TV itself so there's no more swapping to the input of the PVR, everything such as the menu, recordings, etc can be displayed through the TV's menu while running other apps in the background.
Watched Netflix streaming 4K of "Marco polo" for a streaming service over wifi the quality was far better than most blurays. There were scenes where he's picking up sheets of silk etc and you can actually see individual strands of the fabric. The detail is such that I found myself ignoring dialogue and staring at the lighting, faces, costumes.
Regular HD Programming looks great as well as its all uppscaled to 4k, non-HD however looks even worse than Normal lol.
All in all, id say for $1799 it's a pretty damn good price if you can justify it. Most people on AVSforum beleive this is the best TV under $3200.

Hmm... been buttering up the wife for a new TV in time for Superbowl. I host a party every year and moved into a split level 6 months ago.. think both living rooms need a nice TV!
I think I'll look into the XBR as well.

Btw, here is a useful link for you, it's the owners thread for the 850 line over on avsforum.com. Tonnes of helpful info and they always post up their settings/tweaks:
So far so good. Watched the first ep of Marco Polo last night, 4k looks insane. Looking forward to watching the Canucks tonight. Haven't really started to play with the settings yet, will start later tonight. For now, I'm heading to Northview.

Just watched the the Croods on 3D BluRay - it was awesome! The image was great. Much better than theatre 3D experience IMO. Kids were reaching for things.. very cool!

Kid at future shop said processor wise, 900>850>830. 850 also has built in camera for Skype or w/e which apparently 830 does not offer. I would expect the 900 would have the same.
IIRC, the 830 at Best Buy does not have the swipe remote either.. I paid the extra $100 at FS for the remote and better processor.
Google the spec differences and read up.

Just checked out Sony.ca, looks like the difference between x830 and x850 is just the camera and touch remote. I highly doubt the processor is different given they are both x800 series and such a small price difference. I'm guessing same panel, same processor, just paying $100-200 more for the extra accessories.
You could definitely be right.. FS employee didn't compare specs online, just said he thought he remembered the Sony rep telling him each model had a slightly better processor. Could have been full of it.

If you want a high end 4k TV fomr Samsung the Samsung store in Metro town is selling 55inch UH8550 for 2g which is pretty good considering I bought mine in summer time close to 3g...It was a huge upgrade over my 46inch samsung LCD which was 6+ years old.
