Another theory on who is Rey related to... (long-ish read)
K, seriously, can we all stop with these theories already? Some of them are just beyond fucking stupid. The "Rey is a Kenobi" one isn't bad, but there's plenty wrong with it too. Just stop already. Everyone.
Tell you what, if I was writing this shit, I wouldn't even have written who she's related to yet, I would wait out the bulk of the fan theories and then write something that made them ALL wrong. Or I'd mix in a little bit of everyone's theories and then watch the nerds all get into fistfights (or slap fights - cue scenes of Howard and Raj in wrestling gear) over who actually got it right.
But for now... Stop. Really.

I'd rather watch a fucking awesome movie that steals a good story than an original movie that's goddamn awful.
Apart from just being Star Wars retold, they nailed everything about the way Star Wars is supposed to look and feel while making it modern.
The original Star Wars itself is a cookie-cutter old fashioned good-vs-evil, white-hats-vs-black-hats western with pretty much all the standard characters, so really, yeah, nothing original here to begin with.
Someone once asked what sins against canon had been committed by Abrams' Star Trek reboot... My answer to that was, what the fuck is "Star Trek" canon? The Original Series had practically zero continuity within its three years. Tossing aside canon is a proud tradition in the Trek universe.

Fair point I guess, but you shouldn't steal your entire story from the stories you're supposed to be writing a sequel to. If they wanted to retell the same thing they should've just rebooted the series instead of making this a sequel.

Not to mention the holes in these stupid fan theories (this goes for every show) are usually large enough to park a Super Star Destroyer in them. What I can never understand is how they always seem to be formed based on subtle details from the show, yet end up missing the one huge detail that ruins the entire theory.
I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't written it yet given that Disney threw out all of Lucas' outlines, then Jar Jar Abrams went and threw away everything again and started from scratch by himself 6 months before filming began.
