ICBC Repair or Writeoff?? (Advice needed)

Got into an accident yesterday in which i lost traction and slid into on coming traffic, got clipped by one big truck that sent me into a driver side glide into an oncoming truck. Everyone got out of the accident okay which is the good part.

Both cars got towed. The car i was driving (my dads) is a 2011 BMW X6 i35... fully loaded + NAV + cameras

Wondering if this looks like a write off or repairable? and what should i do in this situation.

Any lawyers someone could recommend also?

I can say it all looks like a write off but it doesn't matter because it is up to the ICBC adjuster. Even if the repairs is slightly cheaper than paying you the book value of that model they will tell you it is repairable and not deemed a write off.
All up to ICBC and the costs.

ya thats what im worried about... i dont want them to repair this as its so fuked it won't drive the same again nor will the resell value be worth anything if they do repair it.

Any recommendations for which autobody shop i should request? Also, ICBC wants me to give them the auto body shop before they even make the estimate... I would rather wait till they say if they will fix it or if its a writeoff before i give them an auto body

That's a write-off for sure. If they even suggest for a moment its repairable talk to another adjuster.

Glad you are okay though

there is no fixing that correctly outside of a hack bodyshop that does rebuilds on the cheap.

what kind of tires did it have on? the reason i'm asking is because i don't know what icbc will say if you had summer tires driving in the snow w/regards to the at-fault part of the accident claim.

regardless, it is good to see that you are okay. a couple of more inches inboard and it looks like it would have been a pretty bad offset crash as opposed to this...

I was driving in from Maple ridge to Mission... Maple ridge it was raining hard but when I got into mission just past the silverdale gas stations (lougheed turns into a narrow straight two lane street). I slowed down to about 40-45 and was driving and then midway the car just started sliding, slowly veering into the opposite lane and couldnt get control back.

It had just started snowing there so it was extra slippery i guess.

Judging by the damage to the A-pillar as well as the part of the frame normally covered by the fender (not sure what the "official" name is)... it's a write-off. Financially, it would probably be cheaper to repair than the book value of the car, but ICBC adjusters also inspect whether the frame has been significantly damaged, which it does appear to be.

That being said, I fully expect this car to show up at a used car dealership on Kingsway in the next few months...

Look at the tires in in the first photo. Look to be summer or at the very best all-seasons. But, admittedly, hard to tell from the photo.

Is it normal for ICBC to ask for the autobody shop BEFORE an adjuster even looks at it to decide if its repairable or a write off?

The car is registered under my fathers name and he's away for the next week and half or so... Can't make a decision on which shop to go to until he gets back. I'd prefer to know first if they are gonna try to fix it or not

you can tell them you are undecided, and icbc will go ahead with their repair estimate. however, icbc cannot hold the car indefinitely so you need to ask them how long can they hold the car in one of their yards.

should the adjuster not write off the car (unlikely), it has to go to a bodyshop in order to advance the claims process (eg. is icbc giving you a time-limited rental under loss of use policy?). at that point the bodyshop will pull the car apart and tell the adjuster it will need more work and then a decision would be made to write it off for good.

Looks like the airbags went off as well. So they're looking at 2 doors, a hood, bumper, fender, headlight, wiring harness, sideskirt, anything that was damaged when that piece of someone elses hood got shoved under there, potentially parts of the front suspension, and probably a drivers seat if you pissed yourself. Unless they can get used parts from one hit in the back that's probably too pricey to repair.

i also see radiator support, front inner apron, shock tower, firewall where it meets the a pillar, the a-pillar itself and possibly the b-pillar as well...

it will only affect the at-fault part of the claim, if at all.

Icbc will pay you out for it. Then it will end up at a Kingsway used dealership.
