What would you like to mod your car? KEEP the topic alive! Hello everybody, I'm here to see who and what people mod their cars to begin with. Do you go foot work first or performances, suspension or even audio. Please give me 5 or more details what do you start to work on your car with? Sorry admin, hope i'm in the right forum for these questions if not, help me to move to the proper thread. Thanks:heckno: |
Modifying cars can be a very personal experience, which may revolve around what that person prefers. Personally I tend to lean towards the sound and suspension aspect of modifying. I enjoy listening to music through good speakers while tackling all the backroads around my place. In short, my list goes a little like this: Standard tune up (imo, the BEST "mod" you can ever do to a car) HU and pocket speakers Better/stickier tires Shocks/springs Replace all suspension bushings with new OE rubber (poly is a little too rough for street, I find, and can wear out far quicker if they aren't constantly looked after) |
Tires, suspension, brakes, maintenance, interior. The pursuit of horsepower is far to expensive of one for my tastes, so I'd pick up a car that has a tolerable level of power and make it faster in the corners, stop faster, last longer and feel nicer to drive. I'd LOVE more power, but short of 5k isn't going to make enough of a difference for me, and I don't have that kind of scratch to blow. |
Better tires, Sylvania Silverstars, new speakers + double din headunit, rubber floor mats and CAI + Exhaust are probably my first priority. Maybe down the road I'll get lowering springs and the OEM foglights. I'd also like to put LED lights in my dome light and license plate light. Nothing fancy, just something to spruce up my daily. |
whats the purpose of the car? to look good and have zero function? > rims > cheapest crappiest coils you can find on ebay > camber arms > 4" megaphone straight pipe exhaust > HIDs |
Tires/new wheels, simple bolt ons that enhance motor (not kill it), suspension, tune, diy mods, exterior/interior I always start by going over the entire body and engine bay with a tooth and comb cleaning and changing fluids, clean lubed car is a happy car. |
I did my first car in the wrong order, so for every car here on after, will be: Maintenance Suspension - lower, wheels, tires, brakes, suspension component upgrades Interior - audio, sub(s), ricer LED lights Exterior - paint, front lip, wing, projectors and HIDs, more ricer lights Power - boost, intake, headers, exhaust, tunes, swaps, whatever budget and skills will allow My theory is similar to westopher's, in that you find a car with a good amount of horsepower so it's fun to drive, make it handle better, and then if you have lots of money left over, spend it on power. $2000 spent on suspension will make the car feel way better than $2000 spent on power. |
stance because not si |
it is different for everyone depending on your goals and style and what you drive. some people will wrap their supercar with nyan cat graphics and call it a day, others will strip down their econobox right down to a single seat and rollcage and become a track whore that can only be called streetable because it has a license plate on it... for me, handling and braking mods come first. appearance comes next, and then power last (only because with a v8 and i don't feel much need for more). stereo stuff only if you really are into that sort of thing or if your stock stuff is crap because it only adds weight and slows you down and gives others a reason to steal from you. don't go hardcore if your car is under factory warranty. if you can, find someone who does not mind letting you watch or teach you do installs if you are not confident or competent at it (there is nothing worse than breaking things or doing it wrong and end up spending more than you have to fix your mistakes) so that you can at least understand why and how things work. but if you plan on taking it to the track, then performance driving school moves to the top of the list. |
add lightness add power add reliability add rust resistance add drive-ability/comfort in that order |
Wheels/tires Suspension Brakes Power |
rims/tires suspension engine bodykit |
Lsd, sway bars, headlights, bodykit, power adders. Unless I sold it first. |
First thing I did with my car was suspension (lowered on some coilovers) Looking to do cosmetics next, IPL rear bumper, IPL side skirts, paint match chrome grille, and paint BBK a unique colour Then back to suspension, with camber arms, strut bars and sway bars (best of what is available for better handling) Then interior, wrapping silver trim to brushed dark metal (not into car audio anymore because of shallow pockets) Finally, I'd get to power where it costs too much money to get too little. |
Engine swap |
I have no mods but when in my early 20's, the rule of thumb understood was "every 10 horsepower increase should be complimented with $1000 in mods." My current car, imho, could handle 20hp more without mods. An extra 80hp could warrant $12,000 spent including the head-turning quotient. The younger guys blessed to have help to drive a $30,000+ car still under warranty? That's still up in the air. |
trying to find 225/45/16s for my car hunting a leak. i was under my rear seats doing some wiring yesterday and noticed a puddle.. so i might go to a carwash to speed up the process after that is new discs and pads all around im also looking for a new clutch for my new transmission so i can throw it in and after that a system or my car :D and after that... boost >:) and after that... more boost! |
Suspension Wheels/Tires Performance (Brakes and power) In that order would be how I prioritize mods. |
lol man.. if I had the chance to do it all over again, I'd start by investing in better suspension parts first.. |
Sound 1st. Suspension 2nd. Tires 3rd. |
1. Supercharger 2. Plastidip all chrome pieces 3. 12 inch MTX subwoofer on srs note when i was just a kid with a civic it was 1. lip 2. window tint 3. head unit 4. rims 5. suspension anything going forward its going to be 1. suspension 2. wheels + tires 3. exhaust |
Piece of advice: Don't buy cheap parts. Actually, stay the hell away from aftermarket parts in general, go with OEM+ everything if it's available. The "designers" at most aftermarket parts manufacturers are probably no smarter than the OEM designers, and certainly do not have similar resources to determine whether or not parts are effective/reliable etc. Many many times in my life I have regretted buying aftermarket parts, and I only ever bought the "best" parts. |
what ever makes the car louder with or without performance gains |
No particular order except maintenance first 1. Maintenance 2. Matte black Plastidip chrome parts 3. 19" csl rims with michelin pilot super sports 4. front lip/side skirt 5. HID 6k fog lights 6. Lowering springs 1.3 front 1.2 rear 7. muffler delete and bottle resonator swap |
When i was younger, i used to aim for power adders like the usual intake/header/exhaust first, then progress onto cosmetic after. But as I get older and my cars are getting more powerful, I tend to do suspension and wheels first, then power if i want. I came to appreciate the beauty of a lowered car with wheels now, speed wise....get a faster car if i want speed haha |
