The thing with the older timer Italian coffee is that it’s much like a McDonald’s/Tim Hortons in that the beans/grounds they generally using are just some factory processed shit so the batch you get today tastes exactly the same as a batch two years from now. While it may taste ok, and most of the time frothy/sweet for any coffee purist id say the general consensus is that it’s garbage. | It is garbage, but at the same time I won't criticize someone for liking it.
My wife hates my coffee, but I have introduced her to super fresh darker roasts that she loooooves. I buy this for her from a local roaster. She also likes a Brazil Santos single origin from another place. She does her own pourover brew, using a Kalita 102 (Hario V60 requires a bit more effort).
I admit, I like to have it once in a while too. Sometimes instead of a light roast with various different flavour profiles, you just want to have a "cup of Joe". In that case, it's still important to get something fresh. I appreciate it when roasters offer a variety.

It's apparently a high end service, with Geisha, Cup of Excellence, etc. I got some Cup of Excellence beans from another subscription before (beancurious) and it was literally the best coffee I ever had.

Hoping to revive this thread with some more activity.. I recently spent a month in Japan, going to a ton of different kissaten and 3rd wave shops, and shared many of them on my instagram. I also post when I try new beans (including some from Macau that made me literally say "oh my god" out loud to nobody in particular, except maybe my cat). I still haven't tried his service yet, but I plan to in the future! I keep getting gifted coffee from friends and buying single origin stuff, so I've had no reason to subscribe to a service. I couldn't pass up that 30% offer though, at least for one month

2 teaspoon Nespresso instant espresso powder +hot water + 2 tablespoon homo milk. No sugar.
Fast, cheap, palatable.

Recently took a latte art class at Platform 7. Have been dabbling pretty hard lately in Latte art *hipster shield engage* lol but I find it pretty entertaining
My go to is a Baileys Latte when I have time, usually 2/3 2% milk 1/3 Baileys:
Some progression shots (it’s actually a lot harder than you’d think) also helps to have a $30,000 machine in-store lol | How do you register for those classes? I kind of want to do one so when I fly into the office I can blow my coworkers mind lol.
I wish I had enough counter top space to house an espresso machine. Still just using hario v60 and it's been great but I do wish I could make a cappuccino every now and then.
Does anyone use a chemex is there a difference between that and something like the v60?

I use to be crazy on coffee, like I was in a club where we would try different beans and also do coffee art
now it's just regular coffee with either 1milk and 3 sugar or straight up black from McDonald's
some times I would order from mccafe if it was a cute girl at the counter and maybe have small talk on coffee (and maybe a contract if I'm lucky)

I mean, I think I got my hands on how to do an at least OK coffee.
But I can't pour shit. Whenever attempting to make a heart, it comes out like a fucking dick with two balls.
Anyone can recommend something good for cold brew as far as bean goes? I love the smooth taste in espresso (Stumptown Hairbender is my go-to bean. It's super smooth), but for cold brew, I'd love something sweeter or fruity.

Got a Bonavista 1900TS
And a V60 Pourover (the filters are getting a hassle, I might switch to a Melitta)
Some days when I'm lazy, some instant is fine.
Usually black. Days when I'm feeling a change. A splash of kaula and cream
I thought about quitting. I use to have pearly whites, drink zero coffee until College. Now I figure, Coffee is better than taking up smoking. You got to have some vices in life, if not, then what's the point of living
Beans: Go to Beans are Grizzly Claw (dark roast) and/or San Francisco bay french roast beans. I recently got a bag of Vietnamese beans, can't wait to crack that open.
Grinds: PC Financial medium and dark roast blends are solid.
I agree with others here. I was surprised Japan has a solid coffee culture. One of the best cups of coffee I had was in a small stand in the fish market. hella surprised.

these days platform 7 is my go to... no ridiculous attitude from baristas like some cafes, and consistent results.

Protip:
When traveling, especially abroad I’m willing to put in the time and effort to find a great coffee shop around wherever I’m staying. A great indicator of a good coffee shop is seeing images of Latte art in their reviews.
While it isn’t a sure thing, if the baristas are capable of Latte art odds are they can pour a decent cup.
Europe seems to have this aura around coffee and a train of though that Europe in general does coffee very well. I’ve found it to be the opposite. More bad coffee than good in my experience.

That being said, if you have money to spare, the technivorm moccamaster coffee makers will give you even more performance and durability. Personally i also prefer the look of it. Since it is a machine that is within eye-sight in the kitchen and is used daily, I would splurge on it.

You need to to place the filter on top of the carafe, then when you're done, you need to remove the filter basket then screw on the carafe lid, otherwise it spills all over. before you can even pour yourself a mug.
I was eyeing the mocchamaster and that would be my next machine if the bonavita breaks, or an expresso machine. The mocchamaster has a nice user friendly layout and looks great.
