Should be all good then, although if the cup holds enough grinds for 6 cups and you're making 1...

I would recommend weighing your grinds so you know what dose you like for each bean, etc

It's European espresso size. so 6 cups = 6 single shots. That said, it's not really true espresso because it is using 20-25g of grounded.

You guys are nuts with your 4 digit coffee makers. I was gifted a Breville Cafe Aroma and that thing is already pretty decent enough for me to not walk downstairs for a Starbucks (which isn't all that good anyways..lol)

I have an in wall Thermador machine at home for my day to day binging of espresso and coffee. It's convenient.

Pulled out my moka pot today after reading spook.ek9 posts, 6 cup moka makes me 3 cups of very potent coffee. Use nespresso frother to make some milk and then make a latte. I have a freaking headache now and I'm only 1/2 way through my 2nd cup. Moka pot seems to make a much more potent brew?

Prosumer espresso machines have come a long way from since I got into this over a decade ago. There weren't companies or trailblazers like Breville on the market who created affordable machines that do what they do today; These really were 4 digit coffee makers at the time.

If my Rocket ever dies (likely won't happen) I'll probably pick up a prosumer Breville seeing as they can really do so much more than they were able to and what I need it to do. Mind you, I've also learned a lot in terms of my skillset so I want to do more with less.

I won't kid myself and admit I'd love a 5 digital coffee maker (who doesn't want a nice machine on their kitchen counter?) but even 3 digit coffee makers can be stretched beyond their advertised capabilities to truly perform like a 4 digit coffee maker.

People buy $3000 mufflers for their rides so they can go get pulled over on the daily, why not spend some $$$ on something you use and enjoy every single day? Lol

For some people coffee is coffee and the difference between a boutique store and a vending machine is negligible. But if it’s something you’re passionate about it’s no different than any other hobby

I think people just like to spend lots of money when they love a hobby, whether it's really justified or not. A good espresso machine needs to be consistent and durable, and that's not really cheap, you also probably don't need an insanely expensive commercial machine in your kitchen either. But "luxury" is a thing people are into.

Personally, I only drink espresso if I'm trying to get a quick shot of caffeine (I used to occasionally order one with a coffee to get extra caffeine ). Of course I want that to be a good quality espresso when I do, but still... It's espresso, dunked down in 1 or 2 sips. Don't need a 5 figure machine for that I think!

But when I want to sit an enjoy a coffee, all I need is a $5 V60 and a scale. Now THAT is a fun way to enjoy a hobby, because you can try different methods with different coffee trying to get the best result possible. A barista can make an absolutely perfect cup of coffee - like the best anyone has ever brewed - with a $5 brewer, and I think that's pretty cool. Get a good grinder for sure though.

If anyone after some new gear Idrinkcoffee has a decent sale going on. I think it’s up to 30% off plus they pay the tax on certain items.

It is a pretty good sale for anyone looking to take the next step in their coffee adventures.

As for me, my Sirai pressurestat on my Rocket Giotto failed after a year since replacing it. It's going back to the shop. I may retire it temporarily while I focus my efforts on my lever machines.

Update: Failblog.org on my part.

Turns out my machine internals were heavily scaled up as I haven't been using it as much. That was an expensive repair and could have been easily prevented on my part. Service manager gave me a verbal lashing. Picking it up tomorrow.

You guys are lucky to have soft water in Vancouver. Clean your machines regularly folks!

Upgraded. Went from a Miele superautomatic to a Lelit Mara X and a DF64. First dialed in shot tastes good... about the same as my dad's Mignon Specialita + Gaggia Classic Pro. I know this setup can do better. Just need to tweak it more.

The milk steaming is much improved over the Gaggia though, I need to learn how to do it better.

In this case I brought it back myself from Portland! I just finished a road trip down to LA not too long ago.

Thanks! The Cafelat stuff came from idrinkcoffee, the Lelit & grinder from Coffee Addicts. The included tamper is actually very nice quality, and the machine came with IMS baskets already.

The DF64 is a game changer!

I envy that setup even though I have no idea how to use any of it.

Been avoiding this thread and I gave in.
