But they have a particular style of washed beans that are hard to work with. Contrary to usual practice where you want slightly coarser grind for drip/pour over, I found Sey (the 3 different bags that I got as gift) are best to be finer. Not espresso kinda fine, but definitely much finer than your usual drip grind. For espresso, they are ok, but I think they go better as a pour.
What I found interesting was how long their beans take to age properly to my taste. When I got mine, they were a good 2-3wks post-roast, my usual sweet spot for beans from other roasters. But I thought they were only decent. It wasn't until when they were in the 5wk range when I started to think this is some very good stuff..

I'm not sure I agree they taste all the same. The different brands have varying degree of sweetness and milk/fat content. I think I tried Eagle brand once (don't quote me on this) and it was super sweet and was watery in texture.

I buy Pacific Evaporated Milk from Costco.
My mom used to buy it.............. haven't had a reason to try anything else.
Evaporated vs Condensed.......... no idea what's the difference.

Longevity should be the cheapest, not most expensive
Nestle (I think sold as Carnation in Canada)
Black & White
Longevity
Always check labels to be sure, they might have different ingredients in different regions

Evaporated milk is a thick milk
Condensed milk is a cooked dairy product with sugar and butter. Condensed milk flows like molasses

Didn't know Longevity was using fillers. I'll switch to B&W and pour it into the Longevity squeeze bottle.
Coworker got me some coffee beans from a plantation in Batangas, Philippines

Evaporated milk is basically milk with some of the water taken out. So the fat content will be higher, but nowhere near as high as actual cream. Milk is 3.6% fat, cream 35% fat, evaporated milk 8%. There's also "half and half" (or "light cream") popular for coffee, which is milk and cream combined to about 10% fat
Evaporated milk was created before heat treatment/pasteurization was used, (and I think before powdered milk?) as a way to prolong shelf life of milk. They would combine it with water 1:1 to turn it back into around 3.6% whole milk.
Used on its own, it's like half and half.. it sort of has its own flavour profile though... it's a bit savory. I like it but I never put milk in coffee except when I have an espresso; in that case my choice is always a macchiato.
Condensed milk was another way of prolonging the shelf life of milk, this time adding a shit ton of sugar to it, which makes it shelf stable like candy. Milk + sugar and nothing else; it's milk syrup. It's also 8% fat, but if you dilute it with water you'll end up with an extremely sweet milk. Obviously it's amazing in coffee, with the right bean (we've talked about viet ice coffee many times here.. imo it needs to contain at least some Robusta to get that bitter taste to work against the sweetness)

^ I use condensed milk and evaporated milk exclusively in my coffee. HK style coffee is supposed to be with evaporated milk I think?
It's true some beans works better with one than another.

Is there any brand of coffee that's pure robusta?
Tried Trung Nguyen 'Gourmet Blend' but it has artificial chocolate flavor and it's not great. Threw out the bag after 3 cups.

Costco doesn't carry Pacific Evaporated Milk anymore. They carry Carnation instead. I searched around and Buy Low had a case lot sale this past week. Pacific Evaporated Milk 12 cans for $18.99.

Went into the Nespresso Boutique in Metropolis this morning. I wanted to try out the new coffee they just introduced. Maple Pecan coffee. I usually try before I buy (all you do is ask and they make it for free), but their dishwasher was down today and because of that, they couldn't make any coffee, lol. I asked them if any of them knew how to wash dishes. Anyway, they offered me a pod to take home. I decided, what the hell............. I bought a sleeve. Just made a cup and tried it at home. It's one of the better coffees they have. I'm not going to go into any snobby details by saying I taste this note and this note. Cripes, I just like the fucking coffee. Not the best I've had, but nice. I hate flavoured coffee, but this one actually works well with milk and syrup.
My favourites list include Cuba, Chocolate Fudge, Bianco Forte, and El Salvadore. Ice Leggero and Ice Forte for iced coffee.
Worst coffee = Peppermint Pinwheel, Seasonal Delight Spice, and Raspberry. Don't know why I have two sleeves of Peppermint Pinwheel.
Depending on the mood I'm in, I have Diavolitto or Toccanto.
I have over 200 odd pods lying around. Mostly coffees that are no longer available. I love the colours of the pods, gulolol. So pretty and shiny.
I love it that coffee is tax exempt.

For the posts above asking about condensed milk, I usually pile up on Rooster brand. $2.49 for a can when it's on sale
Does NOT contain any vegetable oil, palm oil, or any other weird fillers. https://www.loblaws.ca/sweetened-con.../p/20126907_EA

EDIT:
Don't bother with the cheapie Vietnamese branded condense milk as it contains vegetable oil or palm oil

You can try a coffee by the name of Nicoletti Coffee (buy on eBay) which is 50% Arabica and Robusta. There's a Canadian fellow SaigonDrip.ca who sells a Vietnamese blend which I've tried, but my opinion of it is not great.

The latest Nespresso coffee pod, Maple Pecan, is pretty darn good. Somebody on reddit mentioned putting maple syrup in the mug. Tried it just now............. cot dam.
I fell in love with the blend (is it blend or just flavour) when I tried a sample of it at the boutique. Went back yesterday and purchased two more sleeves.
EDIT: found a recipe on Nespresso website. It doesn't use the Maple Pecan pod, but this might be just as good.. https://www.nespresso.com/recipes/ca...can-latte.html

My stupid espresso machine broke already. The milk caffe isn’t being detected and therefore I’m limited to just espressos. I brought it back to Costco and now I’m on a the hunt for another machine.
Dukes recommended this Jura machine that I’ll try.
