I get it. But the overall operation is not all that complicated at all.
And the amount of cleaning super auto needs if you use it only once or twice a day is pita unless you only do espresso and no milk based drink at all.
I was tempted going into super auto at one point. But there’s a lot more stuff going on than just “one-click” coffee.
Of course, if hobz can have Mrs hobzy to clean foaming device for him, that’s another topic.

Just tried making vietnamese coffee with regular espresso blend and condensed milk. Tasted awful and weak compared to the real thing. Just doesn't have that extreme coffee bite.
Robusta seems pretty necessary :/.

The robusta is a must.
Typical arabica espresso blends won't come close. You can try to cheat and get a dark roasted espresso blend, such as Costco/Kirkland's dark roast coffee, but the flavour profile won't be as complex as Vietnamese coffee blend.

Robusta seems pretty necessary :/. | I thought of you both yesterday when I was at Whole Foods in Buffalo, NY yesterday.
I went to their coffee aisle and noticed they carried Nguyen Coffee Supply on the shelves (not all locations have it, just to set the expectation.) I was about to pick up a bag of their 100% robusta whole beans but decided to pass on it as they had a can of their cold brew on sale, and it was a smaller, low commitment. As a cold brew, it was pretty smooth and had that robusta bite you guys are looking for.
I am not aware of any retailers in Canada, but I'm sure if you guys put in the effort, you can find it. @RabidRat - I did find it once at the container shops on Bathurst in Toronto, but I don't know if that shop is still there. [Edit / Update] - Turns out the shop is still there and it's called Aunty Supply, which is where I originally bought it - 28 Bathurst St #1-111, Toronto, ON, M5V 0C6
There are two varieties of 100% robusta beans marketed as Hanoi and Truegrit. I only had experience with the Truegrit cold brew. Good luck.

So after having another newborn baby, coffee use is up huge. Going through a Costco bag pretty quick these days.
Anyone have any other recommends at Costco? I’ve always stayed away from the Kirkland brand for espresso as they are too oily.
My go to is Salt spring, or the Lavassa.

My go to is Salt spring, or the Lavassa. | I like the tinned illy, such a clean flavour for me. I haven't liked any of the bags I've tried. Kicking Horse had no flavour, iirc I found the Salt Spring one too burnt.
I haven't tried the Lavazza, but since I am lazy and use their grinder, the bag doesn't work for me or I need to bring an extra bag/container.

I usually get the Level Ground but it's been gone lately. I find I'm less and less picky about my coffee nowadays so I'm just rotating through the brands there and am trying the Kirkland medium blend next. I was getting the Level Ground mostly because their bag was a ziploc which meant I didn't have to transfer the contents into an airtight container after I opened it.

I was going to try the house blend as well. Hoping it’s not as oily. I’ve tried an “organic” one (purple bag) which I wasn’t a huge fan of.
Love the Salt Spring but I’ve probably been through 10lb on my own in a row. Labazza Crema blend is great’s but it has a unique taste that I can only take so much of.

If you are drinking drip coffee, don’t buy espresso blends. The “typically” are dark roasted, hence the oily beans. You’ll want to stick to their house brand or try their alternatives brands available.

If you find yourself with a gross oily dark roast, you can mix it with some more reasonably roasted coffee to make a good ice coffee blend. I find the bitter burnt taste, just a little bit, makes a good ice coffee or cold brew.
I only drink cold coffee in the summer, so I use that time to save money buying Japanese grocery store coffee (UCC; they make a HUGE variety). The quality and freshness difference is still there, but nowhere near what it would be for hot coffee.
They vary from pretty decent, to pretty gross. I've had to blend in some dark roast this way a couple times, and was pleasantly surprised by the results a couple times.

I don’t drip. I pressurize. The house blend was desired as it’s not super oily to clog the grinder. I really enjoy JJ Beans roasts, but I’m burning through so much right now, I can’t possibly look at the bill lol. Then go spend endless money elsewhere

I've been messing with cold brew in an aeropress. The first batch was meh, too weak. I'm doing it less for the taste but rather in the morning I can just press it and go if I'm really busy or in a hurry.

Ended up stopping in at London Drugs, all their Salt Spring was on sale.
Picked up their “Meta Espresso” line. It’s no JJ, but I LIKE

I was in Okotoks last month and stopped by Rebel Bean. Great coffee. I've been drinking their Ever After and Jitterbug blends. Really nice body but mellow. Calgary has some really good roasteries popping up in recent years.

Anyone try Cafe Bustelo grounds? Pretty decent everyday coffee, strong flavour, and pretty inexpensive. I can only find it in the US. Comes in ground and instant. |

How's the Kirkland brand coffee? I saw Kirkland espresso beans but I don't remember seeing it before at Costco or maybe it was a different packaging?

I bought a bag of Costco espresso beans sometime last year: it smelled to me a little like cat pee when I opened it. Returned it lol.
