It's 'FDA food grade' silicone which is good till about 230-250c, and the water coming out the spout can't be more than 90c. I'm not concerned

I finally finished the Peats coffee. Threw the rest of the grounds in a phin and made ca phe sua da.

Also found some pure robusta coffee at price smart foods in Richmond. I didn't buy it cus I have way too much coffee at home!

One can never had too much coffee!

Curious which brand of robusta beans you found. I still have a bag of the Saigon robusta beans. I am not enjoying it, but you might.

I've also noticed McDonalds coffee is now sour, after years of not having it.

Wasn't sure if I've just become more of a coffee snob or they've changed something.

had a more 'sour' taste for a while. i usually drink black and have to put sugar & milk or just milk to dilute the sour taste

Acidic should not mean sour - it is a tasting note generally associated with citrusy/fruity/bright coffees.

If it is sour, that usually means it is under-extracted (water not hot enough, not enough steep time, etc).

The acidic McCafe coffee probably means their coffee maker isn't hot enough, or they rushed the brew, or it needs cleaning etc.

I've seen it at my local T&T here in the GTA and have been curious, but it's an item that's not always in stock. I've always been curious. Let me know how you like it.

Just stopped by Tim's and the coffee tastes like motor oil today. What are the appropriate descriptors for that kind of flavor??

First of all, how do you know what motor oil tastes like, and what grade?

Hard to say. It had solidly the mouth feel of a Motul 30 weight, but like, to my palate: the cycloalkane hydrocarbons of a Castrol synthetic winter blend 75 :/. It's unmistakable.

Damn. I stopped by my local T&T (Fairview Mall), and at this location all they have is the instant stuff. Was really looking forward to the robusta. And it seems the store you'd previously recommended, closed down before I got to check it out ><.

I still have half a bag of the robusta beans if you would like to try them. I decided they simply weren't for me. I offered it to Klondike by scamming him into making a donation for a half-opened bag of coffee but he was smart enough to not fall for the trap.

Truly the IPA of coffee. Speaking of IPAs, I tried the Toques of Hazzard IPA from Parallel 49. It's 9.2% and comes in a tall can, but it's definitely an acquired taste...

I just use whatever coffee I have on hand and grind it fine enough for a pourover.

I've also tried pre-ground espresso and it works but you gotta be careful not to tamp it too hard or the water won't pass through the grounds.

If there was a decent coffee that said something like "Chinaman Oriental Express Coffee" on the bag and had a picture of a CPR worker, I'd still drink it.

These are super handy when I'm just making one cup
