Breville 920XL
Baratza Vario
Hario mini mill
Hario V60 metal
Hario NXA-5 siphon
Hario Buono kettle
Aeropress
Espropress
Chemex
Able Kone
Acaia Pearl scale
What's your favourite local roaster for drip/espresso?
I've been looking at the Slayer for awhile, because it seems to be a machine that's able to produce a really thick and syrupy espresso shot. The price tag is just so bleh though...

Not a coffee drinker, it has no effect on me from a keeping me awake angle and while I don't hate the taste of it I just don't give a fuck about it.
The only time I drink coffee is when I hit up a Viet Cafe and get the ice drip coffee or some other form of iced coffee.

Not sure if local costco has them, but I got a bunch of Geisha beans from Costco US and they are amazing for its price.
For regular drinking, I always load up at Stumptown whenever I hit Portland.

You can tell I don't drink coffee because I don't make any sense with my terminology.

You have a good grinder. Are you using the freshest coffee you can buy?
I know that different machines yield different results, but if you want a Slayer for that sole reason, then by all means.

How is Coffee & Tales hipster compared to BeanCurios and what you're already doing?

I know that different machines yield different results, but if you want a Slayer for that sole reason, then by all means. | I wasn't aware that a naked portafilter will help you achieve a noticably different shot (in terms of viscosity).
I googled after, and it seems like it is something discussed. As per Espresso Machine Mods: 4 Reasons to Use a Naked Portafilter - Perfect Daily Grind point #3- seems like it's little noticeable difference.
Slayer is just something I want to eventually move towards. I've been reading more and more about this machine, and the touted increased tds, extraction %, and thicker shots seems really appealing. The looks is also . Won't be happening soon though, haha. Maybe an EK43 first.

Let's just say it doesn't look to be worth the extra cost ($160 vs $95 for the same 200g) which appears to go mostly into packaging and marketing.

Love my iced coffee from starfucks sweetened with cream. Not cold brew (which is good black). The milk just doesn't do it justice. You gotta add a bit of cream on your own and 1) it looks better 2) tastes better. I care how bad the cream is for ya! ... no really, how bad is the the cream for ya?

I've been doing some experimental coffee drinks now ever since my last trip to Argentina when I went to this coffee shop and the owner is absolutely crazy (in a good way) on coming up with ways to explore new frontier of coffee drinking.
One recipe I can share that I think I've perfected the ratio is the follow:
Cold brew (something with low acidity, the idea is to replace it with oj): Orange juice (no-pulp) in a 3:1 ratio with oj first. Finish up with a small wedge of orange and fresh mint leaf for garnish
It's shockingly refreshing.

Let's just say it doesn't look to be worth the extra cost ($160 vs $95 for the same 200g) which appears to go mostly into packaging and marketing. | Founder of C&T here We're similar in that we both offer a subscription for coffee but there are a few differences. The biggest would be like the hipster bcrdukes said, we offer a monthly rotation of roasters/coffee and the smallest package allows you to try 2 types of coffee at 100g a bag. With the standard 200g bags out there, I found myself having a hard time trying new coffees because it was just too big a commitment for something that I might not like and be stuck drinking (maybe I just had commitment issues). We're also going for a total experience from the moment you open the box where you can read about the roaster, the background of the coffee, learn about the roaster's suggested brewing recipes, and try it with the two coffees you received that month.
If you're just after a bag of coffee though and you're happy with Beancurious, it makes sense to save the $65 a month. That being said, I suggest trying Inferno Dynamic's subscription if you want a monthly delivery of coffee from a single roaster. It's $98 for 150/g bag but they were one of the best that I had the chance to work with this past year. And if you ever decide to dip into the industry, let me know! We can always meet up for a coffee to chat.
Alright back on topic, most of the time I'm brewing my morning cup with either a Kalita 185 or a glass Hario v60-01 with a Monarch Methods MK320 kettle. If you haven't tried a Monarch Methods kettle, it's a total game changer although it'll break the bank a bit.

The downside with BeanCurious is that a few times I've gotten one I didn't like and was stuck with 200g of it. Normally I shop at Colour Brown and just order different 100g bags from them, but subscriptions end up being cheaper. It seems that you can often get a good deal with beans that are normally over $150+ for a 100g bag at CB.
I'd definitely like to meet up with you some time! Very few of my friends are as into coffee as I am |

I love love love coffee, but a friend and I did a comparison the other day and I was really truly surprised.
He has a fancy simple machine. I forget the brand, but we have been playing with it the last few months to really dial in a brew. It's italian brand, single boiler, semi automatic. We used a naked portafilter. He has a grinder which was around 1g. Also don't know the brand.
The test: Use his machine to make an espresso. We used 18.6g of coffee (Fresh roast from JJ Bean) and added water to make an americano. We then stirred the coffee to get rid of any creme.
We then made a coffee in my aeropress, using the same 18.6g of coffee (Should have used a coarser grind).
Blindfold test.
I was absolutely amazed at how similar they tasted. I chose the fancy one. My friend actually preferred the aeropress. The only real difference I tasted was slightly more bitterness from the aeropress. We had no idea which was which until we both tried them, and then revealed the results.
It's fun using the machines, but I don't think i'll be dropping 3k anytime soon. I'll head out to my local fav coffee shop for a treat, but the aeropress will do for at home brews.

Is it just me or 100% of hipster coffee places taste like shit, they mainly serve sour ass coffee and doesn't even smell right.
They can't get a simple espresso shot right, or is it just me or I am missing something here?
Been trying to find High Quality coffee beens anyone got recommendations?
No sour fucking coffee beans please.
