^ who cares, GT-R's ATTESA AWD is better than Ford or anything else.

vitaminG 02-07-2015 10:16 AM

seems like open front diff with brake diff, no center diff, rear is a an eLsd with active torque vectoring

thumper 02-07-2015 11:32 AM

wow that's crazy. am i correct in understanding that this is set up to be more like a rwd car, ie. based on the amount of torque it sends back to the rear wheels and the elsd?

no wonder why it does those powerslides in the videos we've seen so far...

as for the torque vectoring being brake-based, will that mean under race conditions it could eat up pads and rotors quicker or unevenly?

Timpo 02-07-2015 11:42 AM

Torque Vectoring? what's so big deal about it...Acura had it for a long time and I'm quite certain that other car manufactures have been using that technology for a long time too.

Apparently it has a drift mode, that helps it drift somehow

BMW was the first one to come up with drift control system as far as I know.

Most definitely; if you're a bitch and run with the TC turned on ;)

FWIW, was at Ford today and got some hands on time with the 2015 focus ST. Definitely not as good looking looking as the 13-14. The only plus is that it has a back up camera, which wasn't an option on the pre facelift.

I think they will probably fuck up the price and put it way too high for the RS

Under normal driving conditions is 100% front wheel drive and can send up to 70% to the rear wheels under different circumstances. So it is basically a FWD Focus until the fun starts when its AWD.

Apparently they will be priced below the most optioned out EcoBoost Mustangs.....if that is the case then its going to be around 40K for one of these and given this ie a new motor, unproven drive train I would probably opt for an STi for that money....... I so wish they had the last gen RS here tho....I would love one of those.

Ford says the hot hatch’s “specially engineered 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine” is good for 345 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque to all four corners. The turbo-four shares the basics with the all-aluminum mill found on the Mustang, with upgrades including: a “low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with larger compressor”; “less restrictive intake design” for more breathing capability; larger intercooler and radiator for increased cooling; high-temp-resistant cylinder heads and high-tensile cast iron cylinder liners; and “a large-bore high performance exhaust system with an electronically controlled valve in the tailpipe that helps optimise the balance of back pressure and noise output.”

since they're mentioning its a computer controlled clutch pack based diff, they're locking the rear diff when the inside rear is in the air and sending all the torque to the outside rear wheel.

they're also probably sending the majority of torque to the rear

cool gadgetry, but every bench racer fanboy doesnt realize, these fancy diff's require expensive fluids, maintenance, and when the pumps and electronic controls go... enjoy the repair bill
