Any new rule changes to make it interesting? Did they get rid of the vacuum cleaner engines?

HonestTea 01-30-2015 06:47 PM

-Max four engines this year (5 last year)

- Restrictions on engine development: Teams only get a certain number development "tokens" to use upgrading various engine parts.

- Regulations on nose shape, to prevent "Ugly" looking noses

- Increased minimum weight

- Ban on front-rear interconnected suspension systems

- Some "virtual safety car" thing

- More restrictions on pit-to-car communications

So basically all the rule changes make the cars cheaper and slower. Stupid.

Oh, and anyone who thinks Honda/McLaren is going to repeat the late 80's/early 90's is going to be disappointed.

i don't think making cars cheaper is stupid. We see teams struggle all the time and if we can make the sport more accessible to lower end teams I think it only improves things.

As for making the cars slower, I've actually read several articles saying the cars could be up to 3 seconds per lap quicker this season.

Formula 1 speed increase predicted for 2015 cars - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com

Great68 01-30-2015 09:14 PM

We will see if this years cars are all that much faster. If they are, it's just because the rate of development outweighed the handicap of the new rule changes. Without the rule changes, the cars would be faster still.

I'm not a fan of cheaper. F1 is an exclusive sport, you gotta pay to play. I don't want to see them head down the homologation/standardization path of Nascar.

Last year's season was disappointing. The rule changes were supposed to spice things up and instead made for one of the most lopsided seasons in a long time.

I want to see drivers racing balls-to-the-walls for a full race, not this tire & fuel management bullshit pacing that's happening today

I'm excited for the season. My GF is a bigger F1 fan than I am so watching the races and discussing the results throughout the season is fun. Fortunately, we are both Hamilton fans.

I'm excited for the Mclaren-Honda collaboration this year : the way it should be.

Bought my Montreal tickets today! Section 12 - right on the second corner.

Anyone who has previously been to a Grand Prix to share some advice/tips for my first event?

StylinRed 01-31-2015 12:14 AM

You didn't link Ferraris new car..... or any of the others wth :P

FYI Mclaren Honda is Interim Livery simply for the testing at Jerez it's rumoured that they'll be changing it when they get to Melbourne

People have been very vocal about wanting it Red and White so it seems like that may be what will happen

Vettel does not suit the Ferrari outfit at all...

HonestTea 01-31-2015 12:53 AM

Vettel needs a better tailor LOL

twitchyzero 01-31-2015 12:56 AM

it's always refreshing to see Chinese logos/partnerships in major international sporting events...world cup...australian open...scuderia livery etc

BBMme 01-31-2015 01:15 AM

I really really hope McLaren/Honda does well

mb_ 01-31-2015 01:41 AM

Nice! Not really much advice. Just show up super early of course because it can be really busy. Don't forget your camera. After the race walk the track if possible back to the start/finish line if you don't mind the crowd. You could probably get back in time for the podium celebrations and interviews if you're at turn 2. Hope you enjoy!

Speed2K 01-31-2015 07:00 AM

Haha, I thought the same thing when I saw Vettel in the ferrari race suit the first time.

StylinRed 01-31-2015 07:25 AM

i didnt even recognize him! i thought it was a mechanic or one of the reserve/test drivers :lol

edit:

RedBull just unveiled their car...doesn't look clear though (literally just happened)

i dont know if section 12 has a screen so bring a radio and binoculars
bring a hat and lots of sunscreen
if you're watching support races all day then ear protection is recommended, but not needed when the F1s are on
be at the gates before it opens on race day
the ferrari challenge race trailers were at the end of the water by the hairpin
closer to the end of support races on practice days you can usually get up to other grandstands...IMO center the hairpin are the best seats
we managed to get in the paddock club only because we were chatting up some passholders that were nice enough to offer them for a bit...felt so out of place in shorts/t-shirt :lol and too bad the pit lane wasn't open that hour because the paddock is restricted to race personnel and media.

some photos from last year

if the honda motor by total fluke is up to snuff, alonso may have pulled off a genius move to mclaren. the peter prodomou designed mclaren is essentially an RB.

if raikkonen is anywhere near vettel, or ahead.. vettel's reputation is going to drop faster than he can drive. he needs to own raikonnen like alonso did

hope max verstappen isn't a total disaster. imagine being 17 and your career is over

if renault really has found 100hp... merc better watch out, that rb chassis was fantastic last year

StylinRed 01-31-2015 02:20 PM

with upgrades being allowed this season it should add some excitement

hopefully there'll be a german grand prix this year... :/ (nurburgring is a no go and hockenheim is ???)

& force india won't be at jerez, $$$ troubles

Nurburgring and Hockenheim take turns hosting the German Grand Prix

StylinRed 01-31-2015 03:00 PM

yes but Nurburgring is a no-go this season so Bernie was trying to get Hockenheim to sign on for 2015 but that doesn't look like it will happen either

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/ec...-race/?v=2&s=1

Bernie Ecclestone estimates Germany's chances of staying on the 2015 calendar at "less than 50 per cent".

The Nurburgring was due to return to the schedule in 2015, but German reports say the boss of new circuit owner Capricorn's offices were raided last week by local prosecutors amid allegations of fraud.

And F1's other German host, Hockenheim, is yet to agree contract terms with Ecclestone about stepping in at short notice.

"The chance that there will be a German Grand Prix this year is less than 50 per cent," F1 chief executive Ecclestone told Auto Motor und Sport late on Thursday.

"If we come to the middle of February or the beginning of March and still have not agreed, it will be difficult," the Briton added.

Timpo 01-31-2015 03:22 PM

I hope the new McLaren F1(or P1? whatever their next flagship is) will be powered by Honda.

Back in the day, Gordon Murray(Chief Engineer of McLaren F1) asked Honda to build McLaren F1's engine but Honda kept saying no because they didn't want to build high performance V10 or V12 for the street use for some reason, so McLaren had to compromise with much bigger and heavier BMW V12.

Because BMW's big V12 had lots of power, McLaren F1 ended up getting fastest top speed record, but what Gordon Murrary really wanted was a light-weight 4.5L V10 producing approx 550hp.

Speed2K 02-01-2015 08:37 PM

Haha! RB11
