I wish I had a better paying job.
This and the M2 are the only non supercar cars I have been so excited about in a long time. (and honestly more excited about than almost any supercars as well)
I have heard from a very reputable source that dealerships have taken 4x the amount of the deposits of the cars that are being, and ever will be built not knowing porsche was going to do such a limited production. These are going to double in price the moment they drive off the lot.

I am confused about the term supercar sometimes.

This Cayman can beat a lot of so called "supercars"
Pagani Zonda, DeTomaso Pantera, Lamborghini Diablo, Ferrari 360 Modena, Ferrai Testarossa, Ferrari 550 Maranello, Lamborghini Countach, Isdera Commendatore 112i, etc..

...despite the performance, it's not considered a supercar just because it's an entry level Porsche, or maybe how plain it looks, how cheap it is, whatever it might be.

Because performance is relative to the era of car and is a moving yardstick.

Was there a Veyron to benchmark when the countach was new? No.

385 Horsepower 2 decades ago would still be sub-supercar class. In the mid 90s, supercars still had around 500+ Horsepower. McLaren F1, F50, Diablo, like you mentioned, cars you would find in Need For Speed 2 (Epic game by the way)

3 decades ago in the 80s then it'd be supercar class.

Today 332 horsepower is achievable by a car worth less than $50,000 (370Z).

Hyundai Genesis 5.0 Sedan achieves 420HP under $60,000.

Price and cost to produce it along with material to create it and manufacturing process is probably a better measure of what makes a super car a super car, or a hypercar a hypercar.

I guess I'm way behind the game. Seems like more people have deposits down than there are allotted units.

Snooze u lose. :okay:

Here's what I know

- As of this morning, my dealer has a total of 5 deposits for GT4, 3 deposits came in within 24hrs of the announcement. No dealers have received a confirmed allocation yet in Canada… USA maybe, but doubtful.
- My dealer had an allocation of 5 991 GT3's, they begged and leaned on Porsche and managed to get a sixth since the buyer was a returning customer among other cars, owned a 918 Spyder.
- They are not limited production cars, but at the same time, they are. The assembly line will be modified for a short time period for a GT4 run, that will largely determine the total number of cars they make; however long they can stop making boxsters and standard caymans.
- Porsche Canada has the German options/spec catalog up on the website, at this time there is no pricing or availability for Canadian options.
- German market does not "appear" to get PTS (Paint to sample), so it's doubtful in North America that we will get this option, but I know a lot of people will be asking for it… so who knows.
- Euro delivery is a go!
- 991 GT3RS will ONLY be available with PDK, base GT3 will LIKELY be available as a 2016/2017 model with a 7MT. (Potentially crushing the 997 value increase trend)

I'm going to look hard at the options catalog and figure out my configuration tonight, I can approximate prices based on the Cayman GTS price list for now.

Still not sold, though I do think 997 GT3 will become a more affordable car over the next two years between this car and the likely release of a 991 GT3 MT.

Edit: My one fear is that owning a Cayman GT4 I would miss the hips of the 911… it's that big fat ass that I love some much.

Eidt #2: Porsche USA GT4 configurator is up, my build worked out to 94K USD, there appears to be NO PAINT TO SAMPLE which is totally geh!

Stook 02-04-2015 09:36 PM

I feel GT4 is very good value consider it has brakes/ suspension from GT3 and a carrera engine plus alot more fancy parts that aren't on the s and gts. Well worth the 10k over the GTS i have to say. Wish I could order one.

m_coupe 02-05-2015 06:33 AM

The configurator is now live on the Canadian website!

jasonturbo 02-05-2015 10:42 AM

Did my config, the only options I really took was sport seats, extended leather with guards red stitching, carbon fiber interior trim, and metallic paint - 110k.

Imagine that adding PTS (If it was an options) and PCCB you're at nearly 130K landed :s

I've pressed the dealer to find out if Porsche will do any PTS, if they won't, I won't buy one.

Edit: I would still be perfectly contect to focus on a 997 GT3 RS, wish I had room/time for a nice hot rodded 964 :(

westopher 02-05-2015 10:44 AM

I would be much less excited to buy a new car of this type if I couldn't do some sort of special paint. Hoping BMW lets M2 purchasers do the individual program.

I think technology advancement is a great thing especially for high end cars.

If you wanna simple go-kart sort of cars, there are other cars for you.

You may as well ask why an enthusiast would be against driverless cars simply because the technology is better.

Stook 02-05-2015 01:27 PM

I think pts is possible it may take a little time to get approved. What color are you think? So far my fav Porsche non standard colour is blood orange.
on the 991 gt3, we could get pts here in Canada, but it was not available in USA .

StylinRed 02-05-2015 01:59 PM

I can't deal with PtS...I would never end up buying a car because I would just be stuck going through all the possibilities :lol

It'd be great if you had an idea beforehand of exactly the colour you wanted but if not, omg

RS Green would have been my instinctual choice, not to be confused with viper green.

but… looking at the dimensions of the car and considering its presence, I think maybe Voodoo Blue would be a nice choice :)

Voodoo Blue;

Edit: More rumors, 918 owners received letters informing them that they get priority, supposedly a total of 700 GT4's being produced - limited production run.

smoothie. 02-05-2015 03:57 PM

LAGUNA BLUE BRO

Stook 02-05-2015 04:06 PM

That's a nice colour. good to be different from every other riviera or mexico blue.

If its indeed 700 units only, this car will be the next 4.0 RS. collectors/918 owners will buy them all.

bumsuck 02-05-2015 08:25 PM

I'd go with Signal Green with Signal Green wheels and Signal Green stitching :megusta:

StylinRed 02-05-2015 09:44 PM

Aetna Blue

http://www.influx.co.uk/wordpress/wp...105-1-of-1.jpg

or a green...

http://cprclassic.com/images/portfol...D/900W/175.JPG

something from their early colour chart.... :megusta:

those colours may not look right on a new one though :/ (aetna is a bit too popular though)

radioman 02-05-2015 10:20 PM

More 918s then GT4s :fuckthatshit:

freakshow 02-06-2015 10:10 AM

Theres no way this will be a 700 car worldwide production run

Agree, I can't see it being so limited.

That's why they call them rumours ;)

radioman 02-06-2015 10:34 AM

Add an extra 0 so I can believe I can get one in 6 years.
