Future Drift Build

1 Attachment(s)
I'm planning on doing a drift build on my 1981 BMW E21 and was thinking about doing a 2JZ swap, just wondering if there's any other engines that would be good for the build and why.

You mean you're not gonna keep that powerhouse m10 motor with classic CIS injection?

Nope, mainly cause it has over 300,000km on the engine and I want to get into competitive drifting, and for some reason when i'm on the highway in 5th gear with my foot planted to the floor it won't go faster than 130km/h.

theres a good reason for that... the m10 is not a powerful motor. my old turbo'd e21 was alright, but not much over that. have you done drifting before? do you have much track experience? how about bmw experience?

- the rear diff and axles will not be able to withstand a touched up 2jz, thats for sure.
- have you considered sourcing a 323i front crossmember and installed an m20b25? you could always do a 2.7 stroker and put it in there.
- 323i rear brake setup might be also worth while to find. replace those drums with discs.

The only drifting experience i've had was with an old 1994 Nissan Safari on the streets, and this truck is not meant to be drifted but I still got it sideways and even went about 80km/h sideways down a local mountain road, but I want to try and build up my e21 so that it can be taken to a track to drift on instead of the streets, also I don't have much bmw experience cause I used to just prefer JDM cars but since I saw the e21 I have on craigslist I just fell in love with the whole look of it and i've researched to see if anyone else has used this car for drifting and found this guy called marek wartalowicz who competes in drift allstars and in the eastern european drift championship and then I thought it be great to try and bring this car to the north american drift scene and get it build up so I can try to eventually compete with it.

Find a eta 2.7 and put a 2.5 head on and you'll be set for a turbo! The eta motors are lower compression but the 2.5 head will allow you to rev to 7000 safely with stock rockers (can rev higher with with aftermarket rockers from Ireland engineering) and can push 12 psi on stock head studs but might as well do aftermarket studs while doing the head. I know m20's make around 275whp in e30's at 7(ish) psi, an e21 would fly with that kind of power!! And you could do the motor/ turbo for around 4 grand said and done

Makes me miss my old turbo E21.
