Stupid? Depends on the reason why... From a criminals perspective that's really convenient; don't have to go through the hassle of physically stealing someones plate to put on another vehicle.

Also, like E-spec said; Nice thread 10/10 would read again.

Yea for criminal purposes might be effective, but if you do it just for the sake of avoiding paying insurance then not worth it if you get into an accident/get pulled over by cops

Cops have automatic license plate scanners inbedded in their cars.

Would make sense of the plate matched the make/model of your car. Go commit crime then pull the fake plate off and you're good

Maybe it's not a terrible idea.
If the fake number actually exist and currently insured by someone else, it won't detect anything.
License plate scanners can't detect what kind of car you're driving, it just scans license plate and let the cops know if the number has been reported stolen or insurance is expired.

I've seen some fake plates come through and this is probably the smartest one minus the license plate cover (that begs for a ticket).
