Says receptionist at dealership was passive aggressive. Brb politely leaves and goes home and posts a thread on the internet.

Just playing the devil's advocate here, but I'm a car salesman myself and it's part of the job to approach customers upon entry to the dealership. Some days we go without even a single "up" the entire day, so each and every customer encounter means a lot to us. I understand that the stigma behind car salespeople isn't so great, but it's our job and it's the only way we can make an income. If you're just wanting to browse the inventory, be polite and say "Hey there! I'm just here to check out what you have on the lot. Would it be okay if I grabbed you if I came across anything I would like some more info on?".

We're people too.

Yes you are right. It's not fair for me to tar all the sales men with the same brush. I think I have just met enough dick head salesmen that it has put a sour taste in my mouth.

i got good service at subaru before when i was browsing their used cars

it was not so good at Richmond Honda when the old sales women Lily Lam approached me and was being a snob. She didnt know a single thing about cars and was giving me all the wrong specs and info on the car i liked. she also acted like i was wasting her time. i was debating between a subaru forrester and a honda crv and she told me i cant test drive the crv until i have driven the forrester and have kicked it out of my car search option (making it an easy sale for her since i havent driven the crv yet and also making me have to come back to drive the crv on the second appointment making it easier to close the sale)

it gave me a very bad impression and i promised i would never buy or reccomend anyone to buy from her

Same thing happened to me when I went to maple ridge toyota. Saw a tacoma that I wanted to test drive, not a salesman in site.. I figure they didn't take me seriously cause I was in sweats lol.. anyways, another guy came looking at the same truck and boom out runs a salesman. Dude buys the truck, I go home and buy an S2000 the next week. Moral of the story is, buy an S2000.

you looked at a tacoma truck and bought an s2000, they are two totally different cars, the salesman can see through you that you are not a serious buyer thats probably why nobody helped you

i would be comparing a tacoma to other trucks if i was in the market for a truck, not to an s2000

they can see that you are here only to test drive and not buy lol

Youre telling me you wouldn't test drive a $35000 truck, especially if it's a lease return, lifted on 33" tires?

If I wasn't potentially buying one, no.

Well that wasn't my case. I was ready to buy it out straight. Between the 3 vehicles I really wanted, a supra, tacoma or S2000. The supra I wanted had blow by, the tacoma got sold in front of me, ended up with the S2000. If you don't know me, don't judge

why is customer service so important in buying a car?

I don't get it. you want a car, not the salesman. People take things too personally, I've heard of people that would never buy such and such brand because of customer service. Like really?

I don't know about you but if something were to go wrong, I'd want the smoothest possible experience

Good customer service = higher chances that the customer will buy from you

Because you don't want those dickheads to still get paid for being useless dickheads?

every dealer has different philosophy, same with every salesman.

Its either an "up" system (taking turns) or "open floor" (every man for themselves)

Some sales guys judge walk ins by body language, what they look at and questions customers ask.

But some times, saying hi goes a long way... (sold a random walk in the other day.. not knowing what to look at.)

One does not simply sell the car, you have to build value for the car and the dealer itself, what makes the service of the dealer stand out from the rest and convince the customer to conduct business with you.

I think that's the best way I could put it. Every sales guy has their own opinion though.
