The nice thing is you can split the screen to two different videos, so one can be watching dvds and/or videos via sd card, while the other one can play video games if you have a system to setup. | It would probably be me playing the video games on the 2nd half of the screen

I'll admit though, my kids are learning way quicker especially at vocabulary and grammar compared to the old school reading books

i only give it to them on road trips like when i head to seattle or further. other than that it's just playing kids music on the stereo. they usually keep their hands occupied with an action figure or small lego creation or something for short trips.

So I was testing a few vans lately. If you have young kids and want to install a convertible rear facing seat. The Odyssey works well with more room than the Pacifica. So that's something that's good to know.

With some haggling, got them to add in the timing belt service too.
Can't say no to mods LOL, maybe just an intake

Actually picking it up tomorrow.
They're just doing the full timing belt service at the moment. And replacing the full driver side lock cylinder. One of the things I caught when inspecting the van.
Future van buyers use your due diligence and search every corner. Just cause everything is keyless doesn't mean you can skip out on the manual operations such as door locks, handles, etc.

Has anyone here with a 4th generation Odyssey (2011-2017) experienced transmission problems? Or any problems at all with this gen?

Only issue I have right now is the 2nd row walk in feature. Normally when you pull the lever, the seat should tilt and slide forward. But for mines it only tilts minor inconvenience but it's something I should of notice right off the bat

Honda replaced the tranny for them under warranty. Hasn't blown up again (yet), but it certainly left a bad taste in his mouth.
Makes me really skeptical of the auto trannies mated to large displacement Honda engines.

Only the touring model got the 6 speed auto, i think this one is the better one. I'm still reading up on all these issues.

Used Odysseys seem to be a bit of a better value than Siennas, so I'll spend the next few weeks reading up on them to see what I'm up against here.
Are there any good minivan forums that talk about common issues for these vans?

Wish I checked out the site prior to buying mines. But pretty satisfied with the one I have now.
What's your budget on a minivan?

What's your budget on a minivan? | A site like this is exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks!
We won't have an exact budget until RRSP/taxes are are filed. But we're thinking 30k?
I was toying around with spending only a third of that on an older high-mileage Sienna as a transition van. Kids are 2 years and 2 months right now, so I'm not sure I want to spend much on a van they'll mess up anyway. Wife shut that down pretty quickly cause we'll still be spending a fair bit of time in it.
Why couldn't the Japanese models be cheaper? Or the Chryslers be more reliable? |

Pre-owned Mazda5's are quite cheap. The 2010+ models have the 2.5L MZR engine that is supposed to be much better than the 2.3L engine found in the 04+ models.
For your kids' current age, a mini minivan could probably offer enough space? Maybe you can do that with the samller minivan for a few years, and then upgrade to a bigger one as your kids grow...

My kids are roughly the same age and I am totally expecting them to trash it as the time comes that's where the rear entertainment system comes in as a distraction tool. Quote:

A bit small for me. And the transition stage from mini minivan to a minivan is too much hassle. That's just my opinion
Need to be able to haul around in laws, full size stroller, groceries, ETC without having to fold the rear seats down.

Before I looked into a full size minivan, we looked into the Mazda 5, and also the Ford Transit Connect.
Both were 6 passenger minivans, but lacked the hp for passing on highway, and I needed the 8 seats.
But if you don't need those extra seats, the above two are options you could look at.
A 7 person SUV could also work, but don't expect to put anyone in the 3rd row comfortably along with cargo in the trunk |
