Thanks for all the input guys. After scanning through this thread, I'm leaning towards a Toyota Sienna, and possible Kia Sedona. I just can't believe the model I want, (SE Sienna) with tech pack cost $42k, and after taxes comes to about $50k for a mini van. That's insane...
May have to venture into 2nd hand vans, but it's not my first choice.

Someone did mention the Ford Transit Connect, but I haven't personally seen anyone drive those yet, other than the commercially licensed vehicles. I checked out Ford's website, and it looks comparable to a Mazda 5? But it does seat 7 people, looks spacious inside, it maybe something I might consider.

I hope you're not planning to put your kids in the back seat...here's what's gonna happen.
If you're concerned about safety, get a sedan, they have more shock absorption because of bumper, trunk, etc.

although Sienna and Odyssey will be much safer than this, here's something to think about.

SUV/Crossover 7 seaters have zero cargo space once you put up the rear seats

OP, do not listen to anyone recommending 7 seater SUV. I doubt they have any kids.

I have 7 seater SUV, with only one kid, and still think it's small.
I regret buying it. I should have bought minivan from the start, or smaller, cheaper 5 seater.
last rows will be useless for you because you'll have to put strollers and bags there, you mind as well just buy 5 seater, if you want SUV.
also, last row is so cramped, no adults can seat there.

I was shopping for new minivan few months ago but gave up. couldn't believe how expansive they are....

I'm in the same boat as you. Two kids, and the SUV is not cutting it. We testdrove the sedona last weekend, great vehicle. Was considering the Town/Country, Odyssey and Sienna. Surprised that all four of them you can build to around 50k or more with options, we are only looking at top of the line models. Not going to consider the Town/Country anymore.

Tomorrow I am heading to Toyota to look at Siennas, after doing research, and the posts in this thread, and the fact that I have not owned a vehicle that is now 4wd/awd in a long time, I am already leaning towards the Sienna.

Keep us updated, as will I. You the same J-Chow from Nasioc?

I bought my Sienna 2nd hand but took my time finding the right one. AWD Limited are 60k after tax off the lot.

Saved a little more than 10k and it was basically brand new plus the 1st owner added extras, tow package, paint/rust protection, rubber mats etc that would have pushed a new one over 60k... Over 4-6 months I must have looked at ~15-20 Siennas driving all over the place to different dealerships before this one showed up. Saw the new ad in autotrader, checked it out that day and owned it shortly after. Beware of lease return Siennas.. every single one I saw was sketchy lol

If you can be patient, you can save and find the right vehicle for you.

Showed this thread to the wife since we are strongly considering Highlander Hybrid. Now the Sienna is officially in the mix. The sliding door factor is a pretty strong argument.

Spoiler!

Spoiler!
I've sat in both the Highlander and Sienna at the Toyota dealership. Same chassis, engine, transmission, etc. It's surprising how much more room the Sienna has inside even though it's pretty much the same size as the Highlander on the outside.

I drive a odyssey now and man I regret it I miss my x5 a lot

The thing is long and wide, I live in Richmond where parking spots are puny. Even if you park perfectly u are still right at the lines.

I got the touring model and my oldest is 27 months and he sure as hell isn't front facing till at least 3 so really the rear entertainment thing is useless right now.

Siennas look so nice sorta wish I got one instead of the odyssey but hey I got a vacuum in the back!

I don't know why people are still buying Dodge Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country.
The quality is absolute shit and it doesn't even look good.
IMO Japan dominates minivan market as it is popular category in Japan.
Ford, GM, Hyundai, all back out of minivan market.
Mitsubishi has Delica but it was never available in North America.

jesus christ timpo.

OP needs a minivan to haul the kids and in laws around he obviously doesn't need a lifted delica or ultra luxury limo van.

^ only downside is you're loading/unloading kids on the traffic side of the van any time you're parallel parked or stopping on the side of the highway because someone has to pee mid roadtrip for the 8th time but magically never has to go when we're near a town (I swear my brother made every drive to PG take at least an hour longer).
