i'm on the other side... i've loved the 991 chassis since it came out! i absolutely love the tail light design.. haha
It's my own shit. Ha! I always prefer the previous gen once a new gen is released. It's been the same for me for many vehicles throughout the years. Sometimes the new gen grows on me when I start looking closer at it or see it modded(slightly). The 991 is no different.
Personally, I don't prefer they styling of the RS to a base 991 GT3, and I certainly don't think the performance delta is worth the extra 50K.
IMO Porsche did not make this car out of passion, they made it knowing they could sell a few more cars and improve their margins over the standard GT3 with a little RS tax. Why wouldn't Porsche want to cash in while the market salivates for anything with an RS badge?
If anything I feel that much better about owning my 997.1 GT3 after seeing vids of the GT4 and 991 GT3RS.
Still though, hot car, and one potential bonus is a little bit of downward pressure on the price of base 991 GT3's.

hot car but tough choice, with 200K, GT3 RS or Turbo S?
I'd be taking the GT3 RS all day I think, NA power, RWD, and turbo s is more of a touring car, opposed to the gt3 being a racecar for the street essentially. And for a touring car I don't think I'd need that much insanity that the turbo s provides

And that's just it. One for touring and one for racing. I kinda like that they offer these two cars. AWD Turbo luxury vs. stripped down raw grunt RWD N/A. Two cars that are equally awesome for different reasons.
Watch the rich speculators snatch these up only to sell them once the car appreciates like all 911s Porsches are doing. For half price the Cayman GT4 is best bang for the buck.
I think Timpo is bang on. The GTR would keep up with the GT3RS while costing only a fraction of the money. Starting to think Porsche extracts every ounce of value they can out of their customers.
I was a little disappointed with the price of the RS, I was hoping it to start in the 180k range considering the 997.2 RS started around 160k.
However, given an allocation and 200k burning a hole in my pocket, id still buy one over anything else in the same price range on the market today.
Porsche isn't stupid. Most guys who spent $160k to $170k on a new 991 GT3s will be trading in their GT3s for the RS right away. Most porsche guys want the latest greatest toy Porsche will make. I know two local guys that have done this already.
I agree the numbers don't seem to warrant the price premium, but if you had $200K what else would you want? a used Ferrari 430? Mclaren? lambo?
The gap between the 991 GT3 VS 991 GT3RS is still greater than the performance gap between 997.1 GT3 and 997.1 GT3RS. 07/08 RS sold out pretty fast.....
