BMW parts keep failing on my Ford-powered E36

Destroyed the 4 cylinder German differential... no blame there
Power steering pump is the German unit... and it leaks
Window motors are German... they stop going up
Differential mounting bolt is German... bent it today booting it up Boundary hill!!!

So far all of the Ford-related parts have worked flawlessly for a year!

Someday it would be nice to build another East Side Rumbler

Ford parts have been working a year, and since it's an e36 means the rest of the car is at least 17 years old

Yeah bro, you'd totally be better off with a similar era Ford power steering unit... I think the last time I didn't hear a '90s Ford power steering pump from a block away was in 1999.
Old cars break, it's what they do. Just because your engine has held up for a year while some other components (on a car that would be old enough to drive if it were a person, I might add) have failed does not mean Ford>BMW. And this is coming from someone who doesn't particularly like BMWs.

Edit: Forgot to add an MS paint drawing. Y'know, for consistency's sake.

bwahahaha, that's awesome. I still hear that sound in current Ford models. They either haven't fixed the problem or the sound is etched into my brain. Ha!

@multi: Not fair comparison. You put an engine into a car that wasn't built for it. Shits breaks. Then you reinforce stuff. Then stuff breaks again. As for power window and other ancillary options, well, that stuff goes on most vehicles anyway eventually.

Had the car for sale for a while no? Did you just decide to keep it or was it a frustrating lowball fest?

A bunch of local people want me to write a scheduling app for small businesses and I want to hire a developer to write it, was going to sell the car and hire someone on salary for whatever $4-5-6k would have got me

Seriously, auto shops NEED this. So hard to get updates on your car, no local auto shop has an app. This needs to change.

Barber shops could totally use an app as well. Have requests from a few local barbers for a better system of booking appointments and such.

its no surprise the engine is running fine... there is a reason these 5.0 engines have a cult following and when ford went to the 4.6 there were a lot of angry "purists." its no surprise to see these engines go 350xxx kms; and they have a timing chain!!! ftw...

also it doesnt seem like much of a surprise to see that german engineering fails after a small while. from what ive seen with german cars (more specifically bmw, mercedes) is that they deminish in value very quickly due to the fact that if you can afford a brand new top of the line 3 series or s class, you want the next new thing. so when a new model comes out the old one is "useless" to some owners... so they sell them for much less than 50 percent of what they cost new and to a second owner who couldnt afford them when new... but parts are still expensive and every car has its foibles. so certain parts are jimmy rigged back together and therefore are known to break.

This 850i should be driven:

1991 BMW 850i

With a 5.0 swap these cars could be reasonable on maintenance, as it sits that V12 is a nightmare and I hear the transmissions aren't the greatest, either.

Basically the V12 works like two 6 cylinders, two computers, two batteries, two fuel injection setups... It is a complete and utter nightmare

A carb'ed 5.0 with some heads and a cam, a 5 speed... she'd be good to go!!!

Hell, since it seemed to have worked for Volvo 240 and 740 owners, why not BMW owners too?!?!
