I've Got One for You S2K Nerds

I've finally found an S2000 that I'd like to make an offer on. However, when I tried to get the VIN from the windshield, I was met with this:

Yup, it's incomplete. There is no indication (to me at least) that the rest of the numbers were scratched off. There are matching VINs on the car's other parts, but I'm wondering if the incomplete VIN from the windshield is normal.

I ran a CarProof report on the VIN from the owner's papers, which match the VINs on the car's other body parts, and can confirm that the numbers are from a local BC car. The owners also has the manual and contact info from the dealership the car was originally purchased from.

Everything suggests that the car was well taken care off. What's up with the VIN though?! Is that normal for S2Ks?

Common sense would tell me to run far, far away.

That being said, you said other "matching VIN"s...you mean on stickers in door jambs, hood, etc?

How can you match them to a VIN that doesn't exist (under the windshield)

Yes, the VINs in all other locations match up, as well as the one on the insurance papers. This is the only oddity.

I know some of the AP1 ' S had the dash bubble up and Honda replaced the dash under the warranty and the vin was not visible.

Didn't know there was a VIN on the firewall?!

I checked the following, which all matched:

- Underside of hood
- Front bumper
- Front fenders
- Both doors
- Both door jambs
- Rear bumper
- Rear trunk lid

I believe that was a AP2 thing for certain years, but I could be remembering wrong.

I have an AP1 bought from the original owner and he had to get the dash replaced by Carter Honda under warranty due to a bubble on the dash. It threw me off also but I checked all Vins and they matched also talked to Carter Honda and they confirmed they replaced it.

Did they change your vin plate to one that looks like OP's?

No mine does not have a VIN plate, it is an empty space.

I do wish the dealer would have moved the original vin plate over though.

if it is indeed warranty work done by Honda, the owner should have the paper work to prove this.

Not upgrading stock parts to handle additional power causes them to fail?

NO WAY!

(but yes they are made of glass)
