what is rev limiter for most cars?

hello guys, I am not sure if this is normal but today, I was pulling hard onto highway from 2nd going into 3rd, and just before my needle hit redline, it starts blipping or sounding like slipping at 5k rpm on 8th gen accord v6. Is this normal? it seems like its happening 2nd--->3rd only. I cannot hit redline. In my auto accord, I also cannot rev to redline in neutral. Was afraid somethings wrong but I've read that its to protect the engine? Anyone have same vehicle that might be able to chime in?

you need to buy an aftermarket defi gauge that goes to 11000 rpms, it'll unlock the hidden potentials of the engine

flagella 04-01-2015 09:49 PM

S2000 limits at 4k rpm until temperature bar reaches 3.

mb_ 04-01-2015 09:54 PM

Over 9k !!!!

asian_XL 04-01-2015 10:02 PM

you need to shout "vtech, yo!" to unlock the redline

does yours hit redline or is it similar? I don't wanna worry cause I drive the cars like a gem, except entering highways:badpokerface: So, if its something that I can avoid, I'll change tranny fluid first thing tomorrow morning.

My two accords are 7th gen v6, one auto other is 6-speed, I have no issues.

Jas29 04-01-2015 10:36 PM

have a 6th gen accord v6 auto it will go to redline in 2nd it does have major transmission problems but its still holding up lol 210ish kms on it now.

!Aznboi128 04-01-2015 10:37 PM

Just a fyi in your auto accord you will not be able to rev past 5. It's so you can't do redline neutral drops.

If its slipping and its manual it could be the clutch.

Purely 04-01-2015 10:50 PM

Supra, is the auto transmission failing again on the auto accord (I remember your other threads). Did you end up doing any maintenance? (3x3 drain and refill, filter, switches).

yes auto accord is fine. My 6 speed, im not sure how to tell if its slipping. Its just doing the blip blip thing at 5-6k rpm before hitting redline, every other gear is fine hitting redline. Ill try maintenance tomorrow.

SupraTTturbo2jz 04-02-2015 09:44 PM

just wanted to update this for anyone with similar issue in future. My engine went into limbo mode and limited revs to 5500k rpm to protect the engine because there was so little engine oil left lol. 5% I guess was the remainder because when I drained the oil, there was only like 2 liters left!:heckno:. Didn't know honda engines or most cars do this for that matter.

dared3vil0 04-02-2015 10:02 PM

Because why would you ever want to check the fucking oil...

:rukidding:

dn53 04-02-2015 10:10 PM

Believe it or not, changing your oil will save you a lot of money on the long run.. (honda reminds you to change your oil at 15% BTW)

StanleyR 04-02-2015 10:11 PM

yeah, I remember back in the day doing an oil change on a buddy's SiR, we didn't put enough oil in and his car wouldnt' go into vtec when he drove it hard. Sure enough he added a bit more and it was fine after that

skyxx 04-02-2015 10:18 PM

Seriously, no one failed this guy?

fail if you want. Some of us aren't really good with cars. I do maintain my vehicles, just some reason, oil was very low this time even though I checked it a few weeks ago which had normal oil levels.. Oh well, learned something new to avoid future problems

Yeah sorry no. If a car went from highest dot (full) down to 2L, thereby burning 2.5L in two weeks, you need a new motor.

cho 04-02-2015 10:30 PM

my auto civic in D shifts at about 6k, if i go "manually" it goes up to 7250ish
