May 16th - Revscene Riders Unite

Hi everybody,

I'd like to start planning a ride for Saturday, May 16th, that would bring together all of the Revscene Riders specifically.

Early considerations :

-plan five weeks in advance to ensure that those wishing to attend have the time necessary to "make it happen"

-I would personally prefer to keep this ride on the North side of the border ... a downed rider or a mechanical issue is far more complicated when we are in the US (and trust me I know there are some amazing rides down there)

-pace will be respectful of both the speed limits and the fact that we will have some newer riders rolling with us - if you want a 150km/h pace
perhaps this isn't the ride for you. I want to make sure the newer riders can have fun without being intimidated to ride beyond their skills.

-630am start to beat traffic out of the city

-I'm open to suggestions on the ride itself ... but to make it appealing it should be probably be a day trip. A number of folks have suggested the Duffy Lake Loop ... but at 8 - 10 hours perhaps that's unappealing to some.
Pemberton? Manning Park? The other possibility is that we keep this one short and graduate to longer rides throughout the season.

Let me know your thoughts everybody!

Sounds amazing! Girlfriend and I are in.

Maybe not manning park as the speed traps on the way there is out of control. Doesn't matter if we obey the speed, bikes get picked out pretty easy.

I also like the idea of not going for 10 hours we should plan a lunch (or lake side picnic?) out there as well.

I would agree that Duffy lake loop will be too long for a first group ride seeing as it will be around 500+ km and can easily get up to 10 hours if we need to stop a lot which is possible as it can get uncomfortable riding for that long.

also I am in

Harrison it is ... we can graduate to longer rides as the season progresses.

PS ~ great tip about Manning Park btw.

Well if it's going to be a shorter ride to Harrison, then I don't think that the 6:30am start time is necessary. At that time in May it'll be only maybe 5-8 degrees which is not fun when riding even at 100km/h. Perhaps a later time like 8:30am would be better?

It's too far off in the future for me to know whether i'm in on this ride or not but i'll keep my eyes on this thread as the date gets closer.

That's actually a terrific point - as we will be passing right by ... for anybody not competing we could at the very least pop in and soak up some of the racing action!

well since it's a track day there we won't be "racing" (that actually happens on next days, the 17th & 18th!) but by all means bring your ride by and come check out what's going.

NOW, If you were riding by at lunch on the 17th and 18th this year we have free taste of racing. There is a gate fee of $10.00 though
Just show up with your bike and some basic gear and we'll get some racers to lead you around the track for a bit!
Taste of Racing (disregard that 2013 bit)

this is me taking a group out last year

Spoiler!

Interesting. What would constitute basic gear? Does this mean I get to squid my way along the track?

You need boots, riding pants & jacket, a helmet and gloves, note I didn't mention any specific details about what type or kind of boots, pants, jacket and gloves -that's basic.

If you show in your wife beater, shorts and flip flops.. well you can watch from trackside

But if I curl my toes just right, i can manipulate the bottom of my flip-flop for a little extra aero...

Just kidding. So it looks like my SportClassic may be on the road in the next couple of days. May be able to join you guys
