While I think its clear that humans have made advancements as time goes on, I think the intelligence gap is widening as much as the income gap. The extremes are further apart in my opinion. I have no definitive proof, although the fact that there is consideration to vote in another Bush as president is a good indicator as far as the U.S. goes.

that may be, its hard to scientifically determine any of those things of course.
however, we're living in an age where information and education are more accessible than affordable and ever. you can get free courses at any time from MIT or stanford, so hopefully that trend continues in order to close the gap.
