| Sports car envy.
Have you been a victim of sports car envy? Harassed by people who find themselves experiencing the overwhelming emotions of anger and jealousy due to your having something faster than what they drive. I suffer from these types of people almost daily, I'm not going to say what I drive, doesn't matter. Seems as though wherever I drive there's someone either tailgating, cutting me off, or trying to race me. The worst offenders? Mini van drivers with the stupid stick family on the rear window, soccer moms in their SUVs, most BMW driver's, and the econo-box drivers.

In these type of scenarios I would apply defensive driving and disregard their emotions. Cause if those people cause an accident it's on them.

Don't flatter yourself. Most of that is just happening because van is full of road raging shitty drivers. Sweet humblebrag though. Would read again.

I'm not one to speed off, rather have my baby in my garage than an impound lot, but I am one for defensive driving.

I use to drive modified sports cars and experienced everything you described.
Now I drive a piece of shit work truck and I feel anonymous. No more cut offs, racers, or dumb ass drivers.
I do miss the cool people who would roll down their windows and throw thumbs up and ask me about my wheels or what colour code my paint was.

Almost daily?
Maybe you just suck at driving or have an annoyingly loud car and it's causing all the drivers around you to get pissed off. Maybe you were going so slow, chilling and relaxing, that even a MiniVan had to cut you off.
This is what I learnt as I got older and stopped becoming so self-conscious. The only people that are actually impressed enough to be jealous of your specific car are people who are actually into cars to identify what it is. To the average joes, all you have is an "annoying loud space ship... is it supposed to fly?". They really don't care.
You kind of remind me of those guys that get pulled over and blame the police for pulling you over because they got jealous of your ride.
The point of this thread didn't fool me. |

The point of this thread didn't fool me. | I'm actually a very good driver, have myself an EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Certificate) from the Alameda CA Sheriffs Dept. with over 30 years of driving under my belt, and last time I was ever pulled over was March 1997 and my car sure isn't loud, double mufflers as to not be noticed by the local constabulory

- Driving too slow with your seemingly fast sports car (so soccer moms will tailgate you because they are rushing to drop off their kids)
- Left lane hoggers while doing 50 ( i know you'll claim that's the speed limit blah blah, so SUV tends to cut you off)
- Too focus with your own exhaust tone ( when you hear someone driving in the higher rev range, you will think they wanna race you) |

I used to get asshats glaring at me in the rice rocket. I especially loved when people would tell me to "slow down" even though I was doing the speed limit. No one ever wanted to race though.... I was just another ricer....

I would only put my stock STi wing on for meets or track days. Most of the time it was the limited trunk which had a subtle lip. Far smaller than the stock STi aero bits. I found that the minute I put that wing back on that I would be challenged to race. I remember one kid revving at the light and giving me a stare. In his Oldsmobile Alero. A fucking Alero challenging me to a race. Granted, I was in Surrey.....
Anyway, I get what you're saying. I had one of the mom's at my kid's school call my STi, juvenile. But what are you going to do. It's the price you pay for driving a car that catches people's attention. Racecars attract a certain type of person. Plus thanks to F&TF, they're a rolling challenge to many.

I don't get that, and I drive like an ass hat in my fun car (A grandma in my DD). It's either not cool enough, or i'm just enjoying myself too much to notice.

You have no fucking clue as to how I drive, yes I own what would be considered an exotic, by no means do I drive it like the asshole drivers of the Vancouver area. I am probably in the 1% of decent drivers around, 30 years driving experience from having a military driver's license, an EVOC course, and a performance training course many years ago.

Just enjoy the exotic car you are driving. Cherish the moment instead of thinking about what other people think/do, cuz not everyone can afford whatever car you have. Tilt your rearview mirror so that you can't look who's behind you, problem solved.

I drove faster, on average, in my beater than I would in my Rice Car. The faster your car is the less you feel you need to speed to prove yourself.
