I didn't see a thread about this so I figured I'd start one to spread the news. So as of June 3rd, a Wireless Code of Conduct came into effect. The biggest change that affects us the most is that there are now
no cancellation fees after 2 years in a contract. So if you signed up prior to June 3rd 2013 and are stuck in a 3 year contract, you can now cancel without a cancellation fee. I think that for those who are still within 2 years, they also capped the max cancellation fee at $50 (you'll probably want to double check this).
Also, they have now capped data overusage fees to $50 within your network covered area and $100 on roaming fees.
For those who want to continue services with your provider, this means you get significantly more leverage in negotiations for a better service plan. I actually just bought out the rest of my contract (I paid only the remaining cost of my phone because I got my phone at a subsidized price) with Rogers and negotiated a significantly better plan, with the added bonus that I am no longer on a contract.
There are a lot more changes that you can view on their website, but I think these are some of the biggest points.
